Has anyone found a solution to permanently disable auto start/stop on W214?

Mid City Engineering (https://www.midcityengineering.com/device/eco-off/) was the go to but they don't have a setup for the W214. Anyone found a solution? Thx

There is a vendor (ElBest) on this forum that is advertising they can disable it permanently for the W214. I asked them about it and was told that it can no longer be turned on once they do the coding. It's permanently disabled. This is different than just remembering the last setting or defaulting to off. I prefer it to be off by default, but still want the option to turn it on if I want.

Thanks! Interesting, it's a little different. Do you know where to find this "ElBest"? Nothing came up in username search and forum search just brought me back to your thread 🙂

They are listed in the Vendor Directory (click marketplace link at top of page).

Until permanently coding it off on my G550, I had the battery sensor disconnected for about 3 years. This disabled the start/stop function, while allowing it to be turned back on by reconnecting it. The battery sensor's purpose is to disable start/stop if the battery charge level is low, so that stop does not occur unless the battery can restart the engine. Can't say for sure if your vehicle is setup this way -- if it's a mild hybrid, probably you're stuck with start/stop on. Search the forum for battery sensor for more info.

Hmmm. Thanks for the info. Question, would just manually turning off auto start/stop by pressing the button also interfere with the coasting feature, or is this specific to having a car recoded to keep it off?

Good question. I would imagine it would but you also have to be in eco mode for it to coast and I'm never in eco mode to find out. I've tried it just to see it work, but I'm not a fan of turning the engine off and on repeatedly during a drive. The little amount of fuel savings are negated with wear on the engine from oil loss while not being actively pumped. Just my opinion though.

If you disable stop/start via the button the engine indeed will not turn off when coasting, that's been my experience.

I don't know whether or not the transmission disengages under this scenario as it would without disabling.

Yes you need to have that on for coasting, it has been designed that way for most MBs. Even before mild hybrid, for example the W213 have coasting only activated with the sailing icon when in that mode. The rpms will drop to idle. The button doesn't only control start/stop.

bit this only affects if I’m in ECO mode, correct? Comfort or Sport modes don’t go into coasting mode?

You got it OP, if you don't care about the coasting mode, might as well just unplug the battery sensor that was mentioned by another forum member and call it a day.

Coding *** off won’t affect anything. Just engine will not auto shut off. So nothing to worry.
