Lifting the rear bench.

I'm trying to pull a cable for a rear-view camera. Looks like it'd go under the bench. Has anyone done that? What's the trick? Or any better ideas for the wiring?

Don’t believe you are in the right forum. This is for current generation e-class.

.
There may be hooks holding the rear seat as on the EQ series.

Wait... W214 doesn't have a rear bench?

Very likely. But never drove an EQx so no idea where the hooks are.

The way it works on an EQ is to lift the front of the seat, push the seat back then lift it up.

what made me think it was the wrong place, was that the car already has a rearview camera. Suppose this could be for a dash cam. I wasn’t thinking about that.

That one is enabled only when in R, or in parking mode. And the MB Dashcam from Digital Extras only records from the front camera? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm curious where you are mounting the rear camera. Is it a dashcam? Normally that would go on the rear windshield and not need a cable under the seat. Unless you are running power or something else to the trunk. I've thought about running a dual channel dashcam that has the brains and memory in a separate box that could go in the trunk. Something like the Blackvue DR970X Box-2CH IR Plus. Are you doing something like that by chance?

Yes, it's a dashcam, the cable goes to the front camera (so the front and rear videos can be synchronized?). I'm looking at how to run the cable from the floor to the rear window, and it seems better go under the bench, and go up from the back of the seat?

I would go through the head liner for that run and keep it all in the roof. There was a thread on someone who did theirs and went that route as well. I would search through the W214 board to find that and get some additional ideas.

Will check that out. Did look at the head liner first, seemed wiring on the floor would be easier to me. Now I had the cable under the mat, then along the side of the bench, and the back, and finally it reached to the rear window. Not long enough to go along the side of the rearwindow, though. If I run it though the head liner probably it will be better.

With headliner route, would be concerned about rattles and crossing airbags….
