Tire Size Help - 2025 E450

Hello all,

Have a brand new E450 with the 19” wheels.

Current tire size is staggered:
245/45/19
275/40/19

Looking to go same size all around for winter tires. Dealer says rear wheels are too wide to run 245 but 255 is minimum. Can I run 255/40/19 on all four without rubbing in the front?

My wheel specs shown below.

Thanks

.
According to Tire Rack 255/40-19 is NOT recommended for the '25 E450.
For more info check 255/40 R19 tire on a 19x9.5 rim. There are some performance issues.

Curious why you want to go square just for winter tires? Why not stay with the staggered setup or change the wheels entirely and go square all year regardless of summer winter?

If you are Ok with not having run flats, and you don't need a full ice and snow tire, you can mount Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires on your existing wheels and use them year-round.
For people looking at the E53, the winter wheel and tire package for the E53 is the same size.

My tire guy told me some Mercedes have issues with the traction control computer throwing codes on a square setup. I changed to BBS wheels in a square setup, and the tire installers insisted on staggering the tires. It seems weird to me, but it seems to work.

Thank you all for responding with ideas and help.

Question: I presume my stock staggered size will work equally well if I drop to a 35R all around? Shouldn’t be a problem?

245/35/19
275/35/19

I have an opportunity to get some Conti Winters for a very good price.

Thanks

The overall diameter would be smaller from factory and therefore show a higher speed on the speedometer than you are actually going unless you have it adjusted. The original tire sizes have identical overall diameter of 27.7" while your new proposed sizes are not matched (25.8" and 26.6") and are significantly smaller than OEM. Your car and your choice. I'm not a tire expert, but I would not do this on my car and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Curious why you are so eager to get different sizes for winter? You can get the exact sizes you have now in all seasons or winter tires. You know that it works. What problem are you trying to solve here?

BTW: I thought your car came with 18" wheels based on this post. I'm confused after looking at your profile and other posts. Do you have a 2024 E350, 2025 E450, a 2025 E350, something else? Not that it matters, but if you are asking for advice it should be based on correct information.

Are all wheels the same width? 8.5 or 9.5 in the rear?

The wagon's staggered wheels and Tires are both wider than the equivalent ones on the sedan. The staggered ones are 20s.
