The 83mm smnaller supercahrger is = to the same boost as about a 170mm crank pulley but since it is a lot lighter than stock, it free up more power to spin it. There were dyno days in cali, where a car with the smaller supercahrger pulley made the same power as a 180 crank pulley car.

Always better to make the same or more power with less boost, if possible.

What work does this require as far as installing this pulley? Will the "clutch" still engage/disengage as it does stock?

I've been running one of these since last year and have put around 10K hard miles on it. One of the best mods you can do to your car, also highly recommend the belt wrap kit and ASP pulleys while you're in there. I'm at 84K miles and still crushing challengers left and right with the old E55
