Changes to Brake Pedal Action?

Hi folks-

I've heard that in the '24 EQE SUVs the brake pedal moves by itself when the car goes into regen braking mode, and that this apparently disturbs some drivers. I also believe I've heard that this action had been changed/modified in the '25 EQE SUV. Can anyone clarify what if anything is going on here? Thanks again.

I am not familiar with the EQE. But I can tell you that this brake pedal movement does not happen on the EQ AMG models and never has. Not even on the 2023 EQS. However the non AMG models have had it. I didnt know they changed this but if so then it’s an improvement. The AMG has always had a much more natural brake feel and is easier to drive as a result.

That said it’s not a big deal. I got used to it in a couple of weeks on my EQS. It’s harder for people who drive the car less often. My wife always struggled with it because she was used to her Rivian which has a fixed brake pedal.

I drove a 2024 EQE sedan as a loaner which was equipped with the new braking system, while my '23 was in for a recall update. The braking pedal is definitely different - it has a lot less resistance in the first 3rd of brake travel. It's almost a little too "loose" in my opinion. Feels more "natural" I guess. However, in maximum recuperation, it still moves on its own, though not nearly as much as prior braking systems. That being said, I actually prefer the firmer, more linear feel of the older pedal in my car. Maybe I'm just really used to it. The pedal movement doesn't bother me at all, especially because I most often drive in "no recuperation" mode to maximize efficiency.

Sounds like they didnt fully fix it. They should just give all cars the AMG pedal.

To be clear. - the original programming of the pedal wasn’t an issue, but I do think it hurt them a lot in automotive reviews and test drives because the car doesnt feel normal - it requires you to learn the pedal because the pedal feel will depend on the pedal position.. Every time my wife drives the car (not often) she complains about the brakes and I have to tell her to turn off the regen to ensure she has a normal brake pedal.

Or use One Pedal driving (creep off) or Intelligent regen, then you rarely have to use the brake.

I just drove a 2024 EQE SUV as a loaner while my '23 sedan is in for its 20k service. The brake pedal is amazing. It doesn't move at all now, though this is a non-issue for me - I totally get why they did it in the first place, it makes sense it part of my brain at least. But regardless of movement or not, the feel is amazing - feels much more like a conventional braking system, especially in harder braking situations (sudden traffic stop on the highway). I think they've nailed it.
