GLC EQ replacing EQE

What do you all think of the GLC400 with EQ technology replacing the EQE?

I noticed they stretched the gas GLC by 5 inches which make the EV version of the GLC almost the same size as the EQE - 190 inch length vs 191.5 inches on the EQE SUV. Plus the EQE SUV is discontinued. So this is the de facto replacement.

I like the new car. Like the overall shape and side profile. I like the interior a lot and feel it addresses a lot of the cheapness of the EQE interior. I don't love the rear lights. And I hate the front grille. It feels like they wanted to make it look more like the ICE car, but then they felt bad about it so they went nuts with LEDS which meant it neither looks like an ICE nor an EV, but just weird.

Overall I like the exterior of the Macan and BMW IX3 Neue Klasse more, but i think the Mercedes has the best interior.

More new technology for EVs

Range anxiety?

A Revolutionary Range Extender has been developed.

Ikea style hybrid, Horse reveals drop-in range extender backed by Renault Geely and Aramco claims a new kit installs no larger than a briefcase, to extend an all EV with an ICE attachment.
The technology was Exhibited at the Munich Motor Show, the ICE extender kit is comprised of a natural aspirated 1.5 liter inline 4 gas engine.

It includes an integrated generator and inverter. The engine is rated at 94 BHP, and is designated C15.
Installation options are in the frunk or attached to the rear bumper.

For D segment models, commercial EVs, and other heavy EVs, there is a turbo 161BHP version.
Another design feature is flex fuel compatible.

The market segment opened up by this type of product is called a REEV(range extended electric vehicle).

Perhaps if we choose night package plus if that's an option and it darkens out the grille, you might like it or not notice it as much. I guess it comes down to getting used to as well when it comes to new or unfamiliar things (for example, this new grille design).I guess it is a human nature trait.

IMO Mercedes Benz is working very hard to drive E class customers to the competition (no pun intended).

How in the world did they go from 285 mile range on the EQE to 443 on this new model? I love my EQE but now have a little FOMO.

443 is with WLTP cycle. EPA will be pretty close to 300, maybe 330. It won't be much different from our current range.

The Worldwide Harmonised Light vehicles Test Procedure is a global driving cycle standard for determining the levels of pollutants, CO₂ emission standards and fuel consumption of conventional internal combustion engine and hybrid automobiles, as well as the all-electric range of plug-in electric vehicles. The WLTP was adopted by the Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe as Addenda No.

As @ua549 posted, it's the European range cycle. It's very, very optimistic. I actually don't know a single car that can make its WLTP-rated range. Especially not on the highway. EPA can also be optimistic, but as we know, MBs pick an EPA test cycle that is pretty tough and generally exceeds it.

The new GLC has a 2 speed gearbox, part of their new electric drive eATS 2.0 system.
Braking system is also new with their "ONE BOX" design, with higher regen.
A new multi-source heat pump is also more effective than their current one.
And it's likely to weigh less than the EQE SUV.

there's usually a 'better option' every few years... if it's time to get one then get one...there's no need to wait.

Yup, just like phones. New one each year. Get the one most suitable for you and not what has the newest features.

I have been dragged kicking and screaming along the way with almost all the cutting edge technology
I used to be a videophile, in the early days of recorded media technology, but aside from that, the Luddite in me reigned supreme.
I was the last to the pager craze.
I skipped over several iterations of cellphones from car phones, to briefcase phones to walkie talkie phones to hand sized phones.
My first cellphone was a Motorola flip phone.
My first smart phone was an early I-8, and got rid of it less than a year ago.
I stay on the obsolete end of the personal electronics and cell phones to make sure that the product I use is well tested then I keep it as long as possible.

I get the latest and greatest when I'm buying, then keep it for 10 years. My '08 BMW 5 was replaced with my '18 E300 and it will be replaced with a '28 model.

2021 AMG E63s Wagon
I drove an ICE GLC loaner for 3-months while my AMG Wagon was at the shop for warranty repair on smooth New Mexico roads. Its ride comfort and NVH was sub-par. I test drove the AMG EQE SUV in ATL and was quite satisfied with it except for the MSRP and its possible use in Rural New Mexico at the time where I split time between my Athens GA residence. Hopefully the stretched EQ GLC will address the poor ride of the ICE GLC and improve on its NVH akin to a generic Volkswagon.

All my ICE is paid off. Just owe $5500 on new 2025 GR Corolla manual. At 65 intend to keep ‘24 Maverick ‘15 Chevy SS and GRC so don't care about Depreciation. If for some rea$on old job calls me back to Duty I might entertain leasing AMG E53 Wagon. The wife and kids can buy an EV once the cars I provided them over the past 5-years no longer run.

Especially now that every iteration of the phone looks just like the previous generation. I use android, samsung actually, ever since S22, they all look alike other than a few camera upgrades. The other upgrades are mainly software, AI specifically which I have no use of.

Ah the good ol manual, worth the debt alone. Did you consider a miata with that manual? It is a fun to drive a slow car fast....

Terrible joke: no one reads or buy manuals these days so they are getting rare.
