Common issue. Try cleaning the hood latch sensor first it’s a known trigger for that error. Also check your battery voltage. Low battery confuses the auto stop system. Service will likely find a bad auxiliary battery or a faulty hood switch.

By this do you mean active brake assist? Make sure front radar is clear of dirt and debris, as well as the stereo cameras. Then lock the car for at least 5 minutes and then restart. It should clear. Sometimes when starting the car, it finds an implausible radar scenario and throws an error. It clears on a full power cycle of the system.

The main one to check is that the MB star in the grille is relatively clean. There are two more sensors in the bumper, so you want to be sure it's not absolutely caked in mud, debris, or other dirt. And then the camera array that you can see at the top-center of the windshield. The wipers usually do a good job of keeping this clean. Hopefully the 5-min poweroff fixes it otherwise.

The wheel itself has integral capacitance sensors to indicate if one is touching the wheel. There are integral thumb controls for various menu functions. If one of the sensors or controls stops working the wheel must be replaced.

Yes - but what I find amazing is that any of these sensors have anything to do with "Active emergency stop assist". Seems to me like that should be an entirely separate system!

I am wondering if it is because they communicate with the active emergency stop assist and engages it if it detects that the driver is not responding, paying attention.

Thanks for sharing. Definitely needs to be checked with the dealer's SDS. Likely radar, camera, or other malfunction. We had an issue on my wife's EQE SUV where the ABS tone ring was rubbing against the hall effect sensor. Eventually, it produced an implausible reading, and all sorts of things disabled, including rear steering. It was a quick fix. Without more information from the car directly, it'll be impossible to diagnose, but should be easy to remedy.
