Heads Up Display
Anyone have any feedback on the heads up display? I really want it and have a reservation on a car that will have it but I haven't seen it in any of the dealerships that have the vehicle on the lot. Is it a must have?

I can see how it would be interesting and cool to have but considering I have driven cars for 53 years without one and do just fine it would not be a deal breaker for me personally…..

HUDs have been in vehicle use in the US since the 1990s. IMO they are a necessary safety device because one can monitor navigation, speed, etc. without taking one's eyes off the road. I had one in my BMW 5 Series 20 years ago. There is a wide choice of aftermarket displays available for less than $500 though none are as good as factory displays.

Depends on how much of it you have turned on. I test drove an EQS sedan with it and it was way too distracting for me. If you have the navigation overlay and everything turned on, I found myself paying less attention to the overall environment and looking more at the arrows and crap all over the screen. I don’t think I’ll be turning mine on.

Since you want HUD, it is very well done on the EQS SUV. There are 4 different views and you can turn it off if needed. Personally, I wouldn't buy a car without HUD.

There are 2 HUD options - a basic HUD and an Augmented Reality HUD.
Here is my review of the AR HUD in the EQS. It is a must have feature. I have it in my sedan, and ordered it for my wife's 580 SUV.

So option 444 is not the AR HUD? Just regular HUD?

444 does include route directions (when navigating to a location) but does not include the AR overlay that appears on the center screen.

I ordered mine with option 444 (regular HUD). I have since decided that I wanted the 445 (Enhanced) version, but since my car is in the building queue (January 24 build date), my salesman says he's not been able to get MB to make the change. If I'm not able to get that changed, will I be missing out on much?

I just contacted my salesman, he tells that he attempted to re-place the order and the system will not accept the configuration with the 445 option. He's assuming it's a parts availability issue.

LasVegas_89135,
I too wanted the 445, but it was not worth the potential $7500 I would be saving by taking the car I had a deposit on (I took delivery of a pre-ordered car that someone else bailed on a few months ago that had all but two options in my customized car I ideally wanted). Here is my experience with the 444 HUD.
NOTE: This pic was taken by the passenger, it's a bit blurry, but the best that can be done.
Both the HUD and the driver display have multiple views, but overall this is the one I prefer where the HUD is set to Standard View, and the Driver's display set to Assistive View. The driver display shows the Assistive view where you can see the other vehicles the car is tracking on the road. And the HUD, in Standard mode which shows navigation so that when I navigate with Apple Maps or the built in Navigation the HUD shows the next turn info. When navigating with Apple Maps via CarPlay the HUD only shows the upcoming turn or lane change. Whereas if using the MB Navigation there is a 2D zoomed in Map that rotates as I turn that I can view the next portion of the route (very nice, I will try to see if I can get a better view of the HUD map next time, or see page 321 of the online manual. Also note the 2D map in the 444 HUD is bigger than the 445 HUD which needs space for the AR arrows).
Ideally, it would definitely be nice to see the AR arrows and tracking info in the HUD view, but the rotating 2D map in the HUD I have is very nice, and I don't ever need to look at the navigation in the center display screen. The only time I look to the center display is to use the AR Navigation Arrows to get me through a roundabout which I find very helpful.
In the 445 I would find some use in the green boxes for following the car ahead, but it is not a big deal since I can clearly see them in the driver's display in Assistive mode.
In your position, I second the opinions of others, get the car you want the way you want especially if you can't take advantage of the 7500 credit this year. If you need to wait a bit longer and can, reorder the car, not worth grumbling over a $900 upgrade on a $140K+ car. For me, IMO, this was one of four options I do not have and the only one I kind of cared about, but in the end it was not worth the $7500 credit I would be losing out on. Regardless, the car is very nice to drive, and with the Acoustic Comfort Package the car is so quiet that my work meetings don't even notice if I am driving or not.

mb_star,
Thank you for taking the time to write your detailed reply. The dealership did attempt to add a new configuration to an open build slot, with the only change being to delete 444 and add 445. I was told the MB system would not accept the build order with 445 and they are assuming that the parts are unavailable. That being said, based on your detailed description of how 444 operates. I'm sure I will be find with it.
Also, I had already chosen the Acoustic Comfort Package and, based on your positive assessment of it, I'm glad that I did.
Thanks again.
