EQS SUV Reliability and Build Quality
Hello all,
I have been cross shopping mid range performance SUV (X5/X6 m50i, GLE 53 AMG, SQ8 etc). As an odd choice among these, I did a test drive of EQS 580 SUV. Here are my thoughts about the SUV:
I was amazed at the overall quality and luxury of EQS SUV. The car drove fast, quiet, and comfortable. I am excited to finally see a proper luxury car maker making an electric SUV that gives close to 300 mile range. While the rear wheel steering helped a bit to enhance the driving experience, EQS SUV isn't a sport SUV by any means (which is expected) And also the exterior wasn't as catchy as the interior. Now I am wondering about 2 things.
1) How reliable EQS SUV is? I understand most of you would have had a very short ownership but what is your thought so far? Do you see any reliability issues or build quality issues?
2) How realistic the range estimate is? I believe EQS 580 is estimated for 285 miles. What do you see in the real world usage?
Thanks.

23 EQS 580 SUV, 19 X7 (sold), 17/14 GLS550 (sold) 13 GL550 (sold)
Welcome to the forum. My wife and I have owned four Mercedes-Benz including our EQS 580 SUV and they build some of the best cars we've owned. I see you drive a Lexus, we also owned a number of their cars and they also build quality vehicles. That said, EV's are new to MB so it will take time to determine overall build quality but in the two months we've owned our EQS we both feel it is the best car we've ever owned. We hope that feeling remains but time will tell. As for your two specific questions:
1) Excellent build quality, no issues so far. It took me about a week to learn the tech and be comfortable with it.
2) We were getting over 300 miles of range at first but as cold weather arrived in the North East (we live in PA), it dropped to about 250 miles of overall range. The EQS SUV does not have a heat pump which affects range in colder weather. The upcoming EQE SUV has a heat pump so the range should be better in cold weather. I suspect MB will add a heat pump to the EQS SUV in the future.

My 580 is also my fourth MB, three SL550’s before, and I love the quality of the ride. So far after 1200 miles not one single problem. As Joe stated above the mileage goes down as the weather gets colder but for my purposes the range is fine. I have installed level 2 chargers here at home and at our weekend house so I have no plans to charge elsewhere. I warned a niece who lives in a apartment about always having to charge at public chargers and she is now feeling the pain of adjusting with her new Taycan. Here in Texas level three chargers are few and far between and she drives a lot between Houston, Dallas and Austin.

Car is extremely reliable although i get some error messages. Turning the car off and on will get rid of the error.
Im getting around 240 mile range(i get about 120 miles from 80% charge to 30 percent) but most of my trips are short commute(8miles each way) mostly on highway.

I've owned more than 30 Mercedes purchased new over the past 60 plus years and have never had any non-routine maintenance issues. I factory order each of my cars on a 6± year rotation. The few items I have encountered were all covered by the factory warranty. Build quality is top notch. Longevity of components is top notch. That being said only use experienced, factory trained MB service people. I have yet to buy an EQ.

2022 Mercedes EQS 580
I have driven 7000 miles in two EQS models this year, and I have no issues with reliability. The only things I have experienced is a screen glitch on two separate occasions which went away by themselves within a few hours. In neither case did it affect the drive ability of the car.
compared with a Tesla I have experience far fewer glitches.

This is my 6th Mercedes and I have also owned a BMW 7 series. Every other car has had some issues or another right from the start or soon after. The BMW 7 was the absolute worse, spending almost 20 weeks of the last year I owned at the dealership service department.
I also think the exterior looks really nice. I have had multiple random people come up and tell me they loved my car in the 1 month I've owned it now. Also I think it has a sporty drive for an SUV. I owned the Gl450 and have driven the GLE many times and I feel the EQS SUV drivers better and sportier than either of those.
The EQS SUV is by far the best driving car I have owned and so far not a single important issue with 1500 mi. Only some minor things like my phone disconnecting which I think is probably some software update that I have made an appointment with service to take a look at.
As far as range, I have not got close to 300 or 280, in fact I'm more like around 200 right now. I will have this checked out also, but with L2 charger at home it is not really an issue for me. There are also L3 chargers between Austin and Dallas and Houston.

Great to see positive experience from the owners of EQS SUV so far except for the range issue and some software glitches.

580 range is 200-250 best case. Get the 450+ if you need 300. Be ready for chronic battery malfunction errors where the car bricks for a while. Otherwise build quality is probably the best in the market right now. If you don’t need the largest size and don’t care for the tax rebate , I recommend EQE AMG, which is going to be superior to the EQS in many ways and cost a bit less.

Those limitations are effective Jan 1. You still have one month to take possession from dealer inventory and claim the $7.5K tax rebate since the EQS SUV is assembled in the USA.

wow that's great to hear. I was under the impression that $7500 rebate is gone from the time POTUS signed the new policy (which happened couple of months ago) and it can only be applied in 2022 if you had a pre-existing written contract with the dealer. Am I wrong?

No, you are not wrong. You are correct. You needed to have a “firm order” with deposit prior to the new legislation being signed to qualify under the old rules. Then, the car could be built anytime in 2023, regardless of price, your income, or source location. If your order with the dealer was not dated before the new law, you no longer qualify under the transition provision. Now, income, vehicle price, and vehicle/battery source rules apply.

For folks seriously considering EQS SUV - dec looks like a good time to buy. Inventory has built up, dealerships have several well optioned suvs on their lots. Below msrp is very likely possible and then there is the nice tax rebate. I feel bad for those who overreacted and paid thousands in “market adjustment” earlier this year.

I'm looking forward to seeing Alpine Gray in person. Hope it arrives before Jan 1st so you can take advantage of the rebate. Post lots of ics when you get it.

As some of you have had at least 4 to 6 months of ownership, can you provide your input on the reliability of EQS SUV?
