A couple of concerning items.
I have had a couple of things happen that are a little concerning: Have only happened once each so far. Anyone else experienced this?
1. Late afternoon the car suddenly slammed on its brakes in the middle of the road to keep me from "crashing into" a shadow that was crossing the road.
2. Pushed the start button and the only thing on the dashboard was a message "Critical Malfunction". Had to turn off the car and open/close the door to get it to reset and start.

Last month I had the brakes slam on in my driveway going 10 mph. Only happened once but scared the daylights out of me.

Did that happen while backing up?? It’s happened to me 3 times backing out, but no problem driving into my garage. Nothing in my driveway that I could figure that would trigger it. I was going along at a decent speed, but normal, when it happened. Now I basically crawl out of my driveway and it hasn’t happened since.

I was driving forward but there is a telephone pole at the 90 degree turn in the driveway where it happened…

I had a similar experience at 35 mph while using adaptive cruise control that caused seat belt bruising. I reported it to NHTSA and received a response, but nothing actionable.

I have had mine slam on the brakes for no reason when the car in front of me is making a turn. The speed was so slow there was no possibility of me hitting them before they completed their turn. I guess this is why fully autonomous cars are many years away. No computer chip in the car can store every conceivable possibility. They will need to apply high level AI to make it work.

I believe this feature can be turned off if it gets too annoying. I decided to keep it on as the instances when it kicked in seemed somewhat reasonable although not necessarily super useful.

I had my brakes slam on again as I was backing out of my driveway today. Rear cross traffic alert was the message. This is probably the fourth time it’s happened and it seems to trigger in the same spot each time. There is nothing in the path of my driveway that I can imagine that is triggering the car. On the drivers side it’s my front lawn. On the passenger side there is a row of small trees about 15 feet away separating my property from my neighbors. It’s kind of spooky. Now every time I back up I’m gonna be worried it will slam on. When I back up at a creep it never happens. When I back up at a normal speed it slams the car stopped. I had a cup of coffee in the cup holder and the car jolted so much half the coffee spilled. Took me 10 minutes to clean up the mess. Any thoughts on what could be triggering this response. Is there a setting to decrease sensitivity of the rear cross traffic alert?

Active Brake Assist was triggered a few times for my W223 in the first couple months after I got it from the dealership, without real danger.
I went into the Setting and adjusted its default value from 'Medium' to 'Late'. This does the trick and ABA did not happen for over 1 year now.
I bet the EQS has this adjustment available too (the choices are 'Early', 'Medium', 'Late' and 'Off').
