EQS 450 4maric
Head uP Display

I went out of state and out of my way to find an EQS with HUD as it is one of my "must haves".

The only way to know if it was equipped while shopping was to look for the option "heads up Display".

Found a 450 4matic with it, and other options I was looking for.

After reading and watching video, was really excited about the Augmented reality HUD.

I was disappointed when it arrived and no AR :-( After further investigation it turns out there are two different versions of HUD shipping. One with (Option 445) and oNe without AR (Option 444).

If you are shopping be aware there are 2 versions of the HUD (I was not).

Second, Is there a anyway to upgrade to the AR (Software upgrade)?

Currently the EQS SUV only offers 445 AR HUD on the EQS580. This is because the hyperscreen comes with code 451 3D guages while the standard displays do not. The 3D guages and sensors are necessary for the Augmented Reality in the HUD. The new EQE SUV will offer 451 with the standard display package and that might open the door to AR HUD withuot hyperscreen but no word on that yet. So unfortunately, as far as i know there is no way to have AR in your HUD unfortunately.

You can get the EQS 580 with just option 444. See attached for an example. Not sure if you were making a point that 445 is not available on the other models other than the 580?

Ah, I'm sorry if I was not clear. The 580 and other hyperscreen/3D guage cluster MBs generally have the option between 444 and 445. There are exeptions, as in the US the W223 S Class is not available with 444 like it is in other countries, and so far 3D guage but no hyperscreen EQE SUVs do not appear to be available with 445, but the three main US models, EQS580 Sedan, AMG EQS Sedan, and EQS580 SUV are all available with either. However, US models (and worldwide) with no 451 or Hyperscreen cannot be had with 445, only 444 is the maximum option. Hope that is a little more clear.

Yes, that is an EQS580 with hyper screen. As I said, for EQS models, vehicles with hyper screen have the choice between the normal HUD and the AR HUD. Cars with no hyper screen, which means no 3D gauges, only have the option of the normal HUD, the AR version is not available.

Has anyone encountered the ability to order an EQE or an EQE SUV with the HyperScreen and the 445 Augmented Reality Head's Up display?
By my research over a number of MB sites (UK, Sweden, US, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Ireland), it appears that Augmented Reality Head's Up display can currently only be had at the EQS level.

I wonder if this is due to a product segmentation strategy or if it's due to semi-conductor shortage -- or both.

We have the 444 HUD and I never look at the augmented display on the center screen when using route guidance.

Thank you, JoeMa. For a complex, pricey-ish option, I'm amazed at how poorly and inconsistently explained the Head's up & AR/Head's up displays are presented by MB around the world. Some explanations seem almost designed to deceive, but I suspect they're just sloppy.

A very specific question for you: Because you do not have 445, I know you do not see the "floating" blue arrows on your Head's up display projection on the windshield. But, do you see ANY navigation information (next turn, for example) in your 444 head's up display projection on the windshield?

Yes the 444 has a very nice navigational projection to the HUD. You get both Arrows and maps.

This leaves me wondering just what are the benefits of the 445 AR Head's up display.
There are the cool floating blue arrows on the projection. And I have also seen a picture where the display attempts to indicate if you are too close to the car in front of you.
Is there anything else?

We have heads up display on my wife’s new XT5 and I find it useless. Hopefully the M B version actually shows you something you don’t already know….😊

Seems like a nice to have, but don't think you are missing anything if you don't have one.

As already answered, you see a well rendered map that provides all you will need to navigate. AR map is also rendered on the center screen.
