ChargePoint handles payment services for Mercedes though. I'm not sure plug and charge at EA will work without them. What I am sure of is right now they only have enough cash for about another year. They could be going out of business:
ChargePoint make charging Hardwares for Mercedes charging stations. If CP goes belly up than we won't have Mercedes charging stations. CP are more reliable than EA so it would suck if they went belly up.

Havent seen a MB-branded charger yet but it's my understanding that when you enter your CC details into the Mercedes Me app it's ChargePoint that actually handles it. I don't want to sound alarmist but if so then charger activation wont work for anyone throught the built-in navigation system. You'll have to use each vendor's own app or pay at the "pump".
I'm sure most Mercedes owner already knew this is in work. I hope they build some in Socal soon. Fast forward to 10 min mark and you can see CP power blocks.

Yeah, I figure I'd try one at a Texas Buc-ee's someday. I especially like the reservation system Kyle mentions in the above video but I don't know exactly how that's going to work if a 300 pound truck driver is hogging the stall. But like I said I believe Mercedes uses ChargePoint front-end APIs and backend servers so if they go bankrupt in a year this could all stop working. What a monumental waste of time and effort (and money). I really can't wait for that fookin' Supercharger adapter!
I would hope that if ChargePoint were to go belly up, then Mercedes-Benz would be able to find someone else to (hopefully transparently) handle payments on their network. (But perhaps I'm giving Mercedes-Benz too much credit :-)

Finding someone else to handle CC payments is the easy part. Rewriting all the code that relies on ChargePoint Application Programmer Interfaces (APIs) on the other hand... well, you can see how quickly bugs get fixed so I'll let your imagination run wild with how long that might take. Hopefully it'll be faster than getting me a NACS adapter.
Isn't just saving the planet reward enough? Why does everyone think they should get free charging using power from fossil fuel fired generating stations?

Who said anything about "free"? If Chargepoint (the company) dies, then we risk not being able to use EA chargers at all (though I doubt that would happen).
(And ps. Only some electricity is generated from "fossil fuel fired generating stations".)
