How Does The EQS Know About Pot Holes 1/2 Mile Away?

Are these reported by folks on Waze or another site. Certainly the EQS cannot visually see them that far away.

Yes, these are communicated over the Car-to-X system from newer models that detect potholes through the suspension when somebody drives over one.

Fantastic! It is mind-boggling to think of the back-end database/infrastructure needed to handle all this data. For weather and accident events, the data could be auto-deleted in very short order. But for potholes...hmmm....what kind of algorithm does one use to "guess" when a pothole has been fixed? Perhaps they just wipe it after some days and let another passing car report it again.

In my experience they stay for a quite a while. Eventually they get cleared until it gets reported again. I now get regular "Traffic event ahead" warnings in a particular spot on the highway in my city and I figured it must be the pothole warning, because one of the lanes has a very sharp gap and the pavement has been deteriorating for a while. I avoid that lane, but I'm guessing it regularly gets driven over now by newer MBs, so the warning is almost permanent at this point.

This is one of my favorite features. I never had an alert 1/2 mile ahead, usually the window to react is only a few seconds. As I understand it, some MB vehicles can receive the "Pot hole ahead" message but can't report one to the server.

It was to me because I drive that route twice a day and will avoid it until it is fixed. I don’t rememeber but might have changed lanes between the alert and passing the pot hole.
