Bye Bye EQS

Just had my 23 EQS repurchased by Mercedes via lemon law. Honestly, sad to see it go. It was a great car, minus the terrible dealership service experience (my car was in the shop for the same noise issue over 6 times, and each time was there for over a month). Anyways, just thought I'd post in case people had questions about the process.

Was the noise power train or suspension related, or assembly related like a rattling window?

Yes - I, too, am interested in what kind of noise it was.

Yeah, it was an assembly-related issue. The rear seat base was loose and making noise. It was a simple fix, but the service department took five visits to find it, and I don't think they were looking very hard.

Is the rear seat noise why you lemoned it?

Wow! It just astounds me the dealer didn't try harder with a lemon-law action in the works.
I assume your next car is not going to be an MB...

Lol yeah I know - you'd think so. My last service took two months. Either way, sadly, it was a bad dealer experience, not a bad car experience. The irony is, for what they gave me back for my lemon, I could likely buy it at auction. The depreciation makes these a wildly good deal on the pre-owned market.

That is really surprising. My wife's SLK had a rattle when we drove it, and it took multiple trips to the shop to get it fixed. But the dealership worked really hard to find the problem - including putting a tech into the trunk while they drove around to find the issue, which turned out to be a bad Cat that had a broken part inside. The location of the sound was very difficult to isolate, and the ended up replacing most of the exhaust system trying to fix the issue. It was never in the shop for a month and we had a loaner for the few days they had it each time.

While Mercedes service has always been expensive, they usually get the job done quickly, at least at the dealerships I have used.

Sounds amazing and definitely in line with my previous experiences with other MB dealerships. The irony is, this dealership was MB corporate-owned (not naming names, but it should narrow it down for those curious), and every experience I had with them was awful. The dealership I bought it from was the best and actually helped me with my repurchase. So, to be clear, I am still a big fan of the brand and the car, just not that specific dealership. And given the opportunity to get out of a car that had spent 5 months in the shop in total, w/o a fix, and had also depreciated massively from when I bought it, I did.

Just curious, but why didn't you take it to a different dealership to get it fixed? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Seems like you should have avoided this dealership after their first failed attempt, or maybe the second. Everybody deserves a second chance, but going back the third, fourth etc. time to the same dealership and expecting they'll fix it this time seems insane. Just saying.
