The option was removed from all MY22 vehicles - I don't know if it was a supply chain issue or a not-ready for prime-time issue.

Really, have any details? Probably the dealers in my country but I've got hardly any info about the production state or delivery details more than a few days before arrival to the shop. Even for the few factory delivery cases they informed me the pick up date hardly sufficiently early to plan flights etc. My impression was that US customers are much better informed by their dealers.

Thanks avilent, I think the info via Mercedes Me was mentioned at the MbClubUK forum but the information there was very limited. Anyway, to reach even that state I would need to know the vehicle VIN and I guess even the factory knows it only some time before production. Need to figure out more about this.
EDIT: seems like the service is available only in Germany. Looks like it would provide a lot of information from order to delivery.

Update on my EQS 580 order with Mercedes of Monterey, CA.
$1,000 deposit made October 10, 2021
Ordered accepted by Dealer October 11, 2021
I spoke with the rep yesterday to remove the Mercedes 120V Emergency Charging Cord from the order. Based on the other charging threads, I plan to order either the Ford portable charging cable or another 3rd party 120VAC / 240VAC charging cable when my EQS gets closer to delivery. The Mercedes cord charges at such a slow rate it is nearly unusable - and the combo cords allow you to charge both at the same very slow 120VAC rate, or about 6 times faster via 240VAC.
The rep said I am currently #5 on their list for an allocation. He said they have received very few allocations in 2021, but they have been told to expect more in 2022.
The waiting game continues.

I also just put a deposit down on the Lucid Air Touring.

Mine is at the dealer -
Salesman wrote me late this afternoon ; “I am hoping that we should be able to have everything ready for you on your new car by Monday or Tuesday. I will confirm when our service department can schedule to do the inspection. It just came in with 15 other vehicles most of which are sold so they are slammed. The inspection for the EQS is a bit more thorough than any other car we have. I’ll let you know as soon as it can be ready.”

I placed a Pinnacle trim 580 order at the Pittsburgh dealership on 10/09, with a deposit accepted that day. Sales agreement signed by both of us, and explicitly states "Vehicle will be sold at MSRP" - so I'm hoping that's honored, given what I'm seeing about upcharges. Still no allocation. I got most of the major options - Winter package, executive rear seat package plus, air control plus, dashcam, heads up augmented reality, infrared glass, interior assistant, rapid heating front seats, toll payment.
When I placed the order I was told delivery would likely be in March, but I'm not optimistic about that anymore. I'm apparently second in line for a 580 from this dealer, and as of earlier this month, the person ahead of me hadn't received their allocation either.
This is my first Mercedes (upgrading from a 2015 Model S), and so I don't have a history with the dealership. Hoping they behave honorably in terms of sticking to the price they agreed to.

Placed an order for 580 on Jan 3. My dealer thought they may have an allocation for June or July delivery. I am a tad skeptical unless there is a substantial uptick in production. Will see

EQS 580 Build Date
Just got some great news from my SA…. On March 25th I placed an order for an EQS 580 Pinnacle trim with all options except the executive rear seat package plus and the AMG Interior… I was given a July estimated build time… Just found out today that the build time was moved up to next week… and it appears that all the options I ordered are still in the build with no deletions… hoping that it stays that way…very excited!!

I have to say I don't like the way Mercedes handles the process when all items are not available. I think they should communicate that all the items are not available before building it, and give you the option to go ahead, or wait until items are available.
This is the way GM does it with the C8 Corvette. They periodically have periods where they don't accept builds that contain things like Magnetic suspension, or the Z51 package. During these periods, they communicate with the dealers, so the dealers can either have the customer adjust the build so the allocation goes through, or defer the allocation until the build is available. I find this to be a much more customer friendly approach vs the take it or leave it attitude Mercedes has.

This experience shows how poor this decentralized ordering system is. Mercedes should manage the order list and give out allocations in order of order date. I find it insane they run this random system they have now where some dealers with no orders receive cars while customers with deposits can wait over a year.

I'm at 14 months since I ordered my 580. The car is expected to arrive at Brunswick on the 20th and hopefully I will have it by the end of this month.

Wow, I thought you ordered last October, 14 months, jeez! You are exactly right, no rhyme or reason for this. I understand Mercedes has to make money and get cars where they sell best but what about all the good Mercedes customers that are left holding the bag and frankly a little pissed off? We can talk all day about shortages but those shortages should apply everywhere not where Mercedes decides?

Yes I just sent a letter to MBUSA CEO about this. It is ridiculous that they are delivering allocations to dealers without orders, while dealers with orders more than a year old do not have cars. And my dealership is quite a big one too. I also asked him to waive the price increase since this car should have been delivered by April 1st, and the fact that it wasn't is Mercedes incompetence. I should not have to pay an extra $7k because they didn't have their act in order.
