Lucid Air named MotorTrend “Car Of The Year!”

I’m already to the point where I look at my handcrafted AMG engine, with all of the hoses, pipes, and fluids, and think, man, that is ridiculous how much complexity there is compared to the simplicity and beauty of the electric drivetrain. And the driving performance is universally better in an electric car. Bring it!

This is a forum for MB owners and enthusiasts to express their opinions about Mercedes-Benz vehicles and related topics. I think you might be happier finding a forum that deals in personal insults. As my friend Jack once said: “Go sell crazy someplace else. We’re all stocked up here.”

agreed. Lucid air is at best an experimental car. The much touted 520 mile cars (which no one can prove since there are zero cars for sale) are going to be 520 cars. Total production including the "regular model" is going to be less than 1000 cars total for the year. Hard to even consider a production vehicle at all. Chances are probably 50 50 or less that Lucid Air will exist in 5 years.

Possibly yet thus far they have made a better start to market concerning what cars they plan to offer than either Tesla or Koenigsegg did. Have you seen what cars they brought to market as their first offerings?
Lucid has made a good start, as long as they have the key infrastructure to both make and sell whilst having the basic financial side of things in the bag…only time will tell.
Assuming they bring their cars to market down the road, with further cars being made/ sold, the cost would also come down. As nice as the cars seem to appear, my opinion is that they are not worth the price they are asking, not by a long shot. Looking at Tesla, neither was their first offering worth 100k yet they sold enough of those headless demons lol.

Tesla has had the market to itself for over a decade. Now that the big boys have joined the fray even Teslas long term survival is at stake. Against those odds Lucid airs chances of ever being more than a boutique car maker are virtually zero. For example where are the billions of bucks to make a battery factory like the big car makers have going to come from? Particularly when when total revenues from sales will be maybe one twentieth of that? Lets be serious. Lucid air is the automotive version Theranos. It took Tesla a decade to barely break even when no one was making EVs. Now that everyone is making them tge chances for a start up is virtually nil. Its as if some rich dude decided to start a new oil company to compete with Exon.

I don’t doubt any of that, which is why I mentioned having the key infrastructure etc etc…👍
Nevertheless, they still have opportunities to be had and just because the big automakers joined the fray - if but 10yrs too late; that does not mean an automatic fail on their part. Sounds like I am defending them when really that is not my intention.
