MB is chintzing downclass. E-Class presence in the EQS. C-Class door panels in the EQE. Cheapening and chintzing. EVs need every gram of weight removed in the name of range, and the cars get chintzed down in the process.

Pretty attention getting to say the EQS is not the S-Class of EVs. If the reviewer is accurate, it suggests MB is swirling the drain ever faster.

They are clearly trying to have a consistent look across the MB Line-up but it’s not the same door panel.
I meant materials and design wise, I know its not the exact same door panel, but its fairly similar, I guess my wording could have been better.

In the end, none of this matters to me, because as you can see, I am a high riding SUV vehicle kind of guy. So I will have to wait for the EQS SUV to come out and then compare it to Lucid‘s or Rivian’s SUV. Sedans are on their way out and I’m not bemoaning that. And as long as I have 250+ miles of range, I’m happy, so load up that puppy with luxury and quickness.

That’s every Mercedes door panel right now. They all look the same.

I think we will see the same thing with the EQS and EQE. As a result you get an interior that is in-between. The main area it seems deficient to me is the texture of the non leather surfaces is the grainy MB-Tex as opposed to the Nappa-effect MB-Tex. The other area is the lack of standard rear climate controls.
I don't agree, I'm talking about a well optioned E Class. The base materials are hard plastic in places, fake metal plastic also while seating surfaces and dash materials are nice and upgraded. I think the E Class comparison is spot on.

That said the interior is still nicer and more spacious than the Lucid which is closer to an E-Class level product than the EQS. Another thing I liked about the EQS is that the rear seat cushions are higher than in the Lucid and the Tesla, which makes the rear cabin more comfortable.
Totally disagree, I found the Lucid more spacious and the interior nicer quality. The interior obviously has a different aestetic, more Porsche/Audi than Mercedes but overall quality I thought was better. Rear legroom I also thought was better and I MUCH preferred the normal seating position, lack of super high dash etc.

Good given that the EQS provides 420 in a similar test.

Not sure that test has been done yet. I don't see the EQS listed.

my guess is the EQS will come in number two on this list somewhere between 350 and 400.

We will see.....As shown above, its number one is the eqs 450 with 77 miles more than theTesla.EVs hasnt tested the EQS despite having driven all 3 versions.

I'm going to test this out for myself on my next drive between LA and Phoenix. The weather during the daytime has been pretty close to optimal battery conditions lately. It's almost a 400-mile drive in a straight line at 75-85mph for much of the time.

Let us know. I would be surprised it made it unless you run it in Eco mode all the way.
Here is another test

The methodology is different than the Inside EV Test. Its 100% highway, edmunds is 60% city/40% highway, EVs typically do better in city traffic. I would be interested to see the Lucid tested by edmunds and the EQS tested by Inside EV

Edmunds drives on specific road routes that cover both highway and city driving around the greater Los Angeles area. We aim for a mix of 60% city driving and 40% highway, assuming that most electric vehicle owners will likely spend more time in stop-and-go traffic than they will on the open highway. Since no electric vehicle has exactly the same range, the route length is adapted to suit each vehicle.

On the contrary, EVs do better on light city traffic. From what I've read, the EQS seems to do better than most EVs on the highway due to its drag coefficient. Another advantage, particularly for the 580, is its superb regen ability. High-speed highway driving is the worst condition for an EV, steady high drain with zero regen.

I misspoke, i meant to say EVs do better in city traffic...which is why the EQS doing that well in the edmunds test doesn't mean that it will do that well in the Inside EV test. Until each outfit tests both cars you can't compare them yet.

And the Lucid Air and the EQS have the same drag coefficient, Tesla Model S only very slightly higher (.208 bs .20)

For me, I don't need 400 miles of range in city traffic, I need 500 miles of range on the highway. If the EQS' regen means it gets 420 miles of range in the 60% city test but only 350/360 on the highway that isn't what I want.

EQS 580
I was torn between the two, lucid AGT and EQS 580. But after reading more into Saudi Arabia’s public investing fund owning 63% of Lucid as described here. I couldn’t support an American company funded by a Saudi Arabian dictator. Just google MBS and human rights and it is very eye opening. I support American made products, and actually have a new found respect for Tesla.

Yeah, I agree with you there: Saudi Arabia is not a country I would knowingly support through my car purchase.

I have deposits on both the EQS 580 (Since Sept 2021) and the Lucid Air Grand Touring (since Dec 2021). Neither has been converted to a firm order by Mercedes or Lucid yet.

Lucid Air test drives are now fairly easily available - here where I live in the Bay Area they have test drives at both their Milbrae and San Jose locations. To schedule, I just emailed my sales advisor - they had availability the same week. I scheduled for mid-March which fit my availability best.

Is there any stuff, in particular, you guys would like me to check out and post here from the Lucid test drive experience?

EQS 580
Not sure a 500 mi vehicle with luxurious interior will be available any time soon at below 150k level. The Lucid Air Dream edition tested is 169k with the range of 520 miles. The Grand Touring starts at 139 k will have range close to the Dream edition (estimated 516 mi). The Air starts at 95k, but range drops to 406 miles. All these supposedly nicer materials in Lucid come at a cost, and I bet that once we see the 95k Air in person the materials will look equally "chintzy" compared to the Dream edition. There is no free lunch, people.... Battery is still very expensive, and EQS had to cut costs somewhere to have a similar price to S-class. For those who want the super materials there will be a Maybach EV - at a cost.

On my confidence in the company: I have yet to receive an email response from Lucid re when I could expect an Air to be available if I place a reservation. It is only 5 weeks now.... If you are unable to monitor your general inbox, you should not have one.

That may have been the case last year, but my experience has been that I have a reservation / deposit that has not yet been converted into an order, and I had no problem getting a test drive scheduled...

Totally agree they should be monitoring their corporate inbox.

Since placing a deposit, what I can tell you is that the sales advisor that was assigned to me has been very responsive. He actually proactively sends me stuff once in awhile unlike my Mercedes rep who is a nice guy but I always have to call on the phone.

In my experience, neither lucid nor Mercedes will tell you anything about when the deposit you placed is going to get converted into an accepted order or delivered. Mercedes just says we have no idea, all they have told me is what number I am on their list at the dealership. Lucid says 4 to 6 weeks after your reservation gets converted to an order, but they offer no time frame on when you may come off the list.
