The knock on the EQS in this video is that there is no frunk and poor utilization of space. The claim that Lucid has S-class ride quality is hard to believe until the consumer drives the car. The majority of people in the continental US, can head on over to the nearest Mercedes dealer and test drive an EQS and make that decision for themselves. Unfortunately, to test drive the Lucid Air you need to live on the left coast and be apart of the exclusive I have ordered club. The best direct comparison IMO is Doug Demuro's reviews

Lucid Air

EQS

In short, for Doug's Daily score when you look at features - the Air and EQS tie at 9, for Comfort the EQS wins out at 9 compared to Air's 8, and for Quality the EQS wins out at 8 compared to Air's 7. Also, I wouldn't want my posts to be politically charged, and off-topic to get deleted off the forum that reflect key facts about Lucid's financial backing. Thank you for the censorship.

i have seen Doug’s video several weeks ago. He does a great job with the pros and cons. He really likes it a lot. One thing thing that struck me is that if given a choice between the S Class and the EQS, he would buy the EQS.

I think you just have to admit that the Lucid Air is an excellent car...all of the reviews share the same sentiment.

Really my only issue with the EQS is the styling. I just hate the way it looks, and nothing about the car is going to sway me to spend $120,000 on a car I can't stand to look at.

I love the way both of them look. I'd love to have been able to see and drive the Lucid before I bought the EQS. But, I'd probably still have bought the EQS because I have no place to get anything fixed which might go wrong, without getting to DFW (300 miles from here). There are three MB dealers in San Antonio. That is a deal breaker from the get/go.

There are two deal breakers with Lucid right now:
1) Incomplete software - many features you expect at $140k are missing, such as CarPlay.
2) Lack of local service centers

Also having lived with an EQS for a few weeks now, I cannot imagine driving a car with no roof blind. It sucked in my Tesla, and I have been using the roof blind a lot in the EQS.

I agree with all of that, those are real drawbacks, and I close my roof blind all the time...

For me though there will be a big service center in Tysons, VA

Software too complex. Just about bought a EQS yesterday, but for some reason my Samsung phone went on the blink, and At 77 i couldn't understand the fix. Getting into the EQS with the displays, really put the confuse on me. I was one of the first local college students to be introduced to IBM 1620 and the 1401. before even disk, but not kept up past Fortran and "C++". Just too much to learn on the road. Wife took one look and rolled her eyes. Said Her iPad was enough. Didn't want to drive one.

Maybe if I rented one for a week or two, would be inclined, but as is, will stick with my Lexus LS500 and MB E350 lux cars. I hate the gear shift in the lexus though, and almost traded it in because of trying to get into "N" at the carwash. Grrrr.

Trust me. The high tech in this car is not very difficult. The basic features are easy. You will gradually learn the fine details after several weeks of driving it.

Not to mention you can configure the system to be like any other benz. I did. I dont like to have the map on all the time, too bright. In the classic look the background is dark.

I'm one of them with orders on both. No allocation on the EQS580 and will not finalize the Lucid AGT without SXM.

Lucid Discounting Cars Due to Possible Low Demand

The future for Lucid is starting to look a bit worrisome.

Lucid Offering Discounts On Some Cars, And That May Be A Sign Of Low Demand
Originally Posted by Carscoops
It has been well documented that the markets for both new and used vehicles are going bananas, but you might not be aware of that if you work at Lucid, and that could be a bad sign for the electric vehicle startup.

Barron’s reports that the automaker has already taken to offering incentives to entice people into buying their cars. The automaker has sent out an email to customers who had reserved a Lucid Air, but did not turn that into a firm order, offering them an up to 10 percent discount on a vehicle.

In the email, the discount was framed as a chance to reinstate their order for a Lucid Air Grand Touring at their “original legacy price of $139,000.” Following brand-wide price hikes in June, the base price of a Lucid Air Grand Touring is currently $154,000.

On December 1, meanwhile, Business Insider reported that Lucid was offering employees a discount of up to $18,000, if they took delivery by the end of the year. The automaker said that the discount would be credited to the workers’ paychecks, at the rate of $1,000 per month.

Lucid spokesperson Nat Lingo framed this as a way to honor a request from its team to help reward those “who were interested in driving a Lucid Air every day.” The automaker, though, was also offering 14 Lucid Airs for immediate sale on its website with a 2.81 percent annual finance rate for 72 months, much lower than the rate for the average car loan these days, and amounting to another discount.

Used Lucids, meanwhile, are being listed for 92 percent of their original price. While that may seem like a decent rate of depreciation in normal times, that’s currently a pretty poor resale value. Used Rivians are, by comparison, being listed for as much as 132 percent of their original value.

All of which points to underwhelming demand for Lucid’s superfast, super luxurious electric sedan. Although the automaker would not comment on demand, that these steps are being taken when it still has a backlog of 34,000 orders does not reflect well on the company.

Indeed, investors are feeling wary. Since September 13, the company share price has nearly halved, falling from a high of $16.63 to a low of $8.61 on December 6.

Back in February, the stock price of Lucid was above $45 per share. I would say that Lucid is in trouble.

IMO Lucid Group, Inc. (LCID) is more than in trouble. They are on the brink of disaster.
Their stock price was $55.21 per share on November 15, 2021.and closed December 9, 2022 at $8.68.

Maybe MBZ can buy them and learn how to design a car with equally low drag coeff and not look like the EQS/EQE.

Everybody got an opinion! I own a EQS 580 and like the styling much better than that low roof, hit your head every time you enter Lucid. I'm 6'3" and that's why I cancelled my Lucid order!

Everyone who has commented on my 450+ loves it. I'm so tired of reading negative comments about how they look, I'm almost tempted to say anybody who doesn't like them has his head stuck where the sun don't shine, but of course, I'd never really say it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, I would never purchase a car from a financially unstable manufacturer due to future support uncertanities. I faced that choice with a DeLorean. I'm happy that I walked away from it.

Make no mistake, I love my 450+. It is a fantastic vehicle, perhaps the best I have owned. However, I am distressed about what is happening with Lucid. I had high hopes for them, and their design and battery capabilities. I hope they succeed, although that looks tenuous now. I like the EV concept, and want it to succeed, and innovation is essential for that to happen. MB partnering with ionnovative battery companies in the future is fantastic. If Lithium ion batteries which are silicon based, rather than graphite based, can improve battery capacity and reduce weight at the same time, that would be fantastic. I'm all for innovation in the EV industry, and not necessarily chained to one marque (although I do love MB). I think it is a really neat time in the automotive industry, and we are on the cutting edge. Kind of like when turbo's first appeared! God, I'm old!

2022 EQS580
I guess I’m late to the thread but I did the same thing - canceled my Air Touring reservation and went with EQS580, which I absolutely love. To me, Lucid was a better choice on paper and from watching all the reviews, but then I went to test drive it and that changed my opinion. Yes, the Air is definitely a better driver’s car - more power, agility and driving feel. But I was looking for the “ultimate luxury” experience and I really didn’t see much of in it. Air is definitely miles ahead compared to Tesla (drove the Plaid, yeah it’s fast, but interior for 150k makes me cry). So, without going into too much details, the things I didn’t like about Lucid Air GT I test drove, (setting aside all the software glitches - they will fix it with time, so no biggie for me) are:
- very basic interior, TBH feels like it was designed by IKEA - I get it, minimalistic design language speaks efficiency, but I think in their pursuit of simplicity they eliminated all the luxury
- the sliding center console “tablet” - really looks cool on videos, in person felt like a gimmick.
- surprisingly, didn’t like the glass canopy - it was super hot in the car on a sunny California day, with A/C freezing my face over and sweating all over my body. Very surprising, but I read on Lucid forums that some people have similar experience.
- front motor is super noisy!! That whine is really annoying - didn’t expect this from a luxury car.
- ride quality was again, not exactly luxury - I guess the lack of air suspension shows

There were a few other things here and there, like it didn’t look as good in person as it did on pictures, a few quality issues with trim, etc. I really wanted to love the car but I realized that it really isn’t what I expected.
And then I went to test drive the EQS - I got out of it with one thought - “this is the best car I’ve ever driven. And I want it.” Exactly opposite experience - I didn’t expect much but it was and is amazing. And in person, it does look great!

So, I would agree that Lucid may be the best electric car overall, but when it comes to luxury - EQS is the clear winner for me!

I am late to the party as I don't belong between members who can put multiple deposits on $200k cars, but my son builds Lucid and the company makes him working 10 hr a day, 7 days a week just to keep up with demands.
I get it that electric cars are different animals than those with combustion engines, but Lucid beats even million dollars Bugatti in performance.
When I never did own 2-second car, I did own few 6-second cars and eventually sold them, mostly because my wife on passenger seat would panic when I used the acceleration, so did several male passengers.
That kind of performance is not for everybody and just check "Idiot Corvette drivers" channels on youtube, how many people buy cars they can't handle.
Anyway, just for the kicks, almost a year ago I put $300 deposit on $70k Lucid model. Getting some feedback from son, I did not believe that model will ever see assemble lane.
When company sells production of $170k models year in advance, why would they bother to build cheaper models? Who doesn't agree?
But seems like cheaper models might come to the play in next year, so when I am happy with my 60 mpg Bluetec Mercedes, I love cars and whenever I can afford, I get newer models.
So maybe the dispute will move to E-class section next year?
Good luck with your purchases.
