2022 Mercedes EQS 580

Actually I love Cirrus Silver. Think it looks great on the EQS. This car looks great in almost any color but silver is one of my preferred colors. I just have a long list I like.

silver is great because it works well with the chrome trim on the US spec models. A lot of other colors like magno grey, white, black, red and even blue will necessitate wrapping the trim in black gloss. With silver the chrome works.

Looks like you were at the Tyson's mall test drive. I also went there, but the day was very cloudy so I didn't see what the cars would look like in the sun.

Wow, the red looks nice, now I'm really confused. Hadn't considered it before, but I like the contrast of the red with the black grills, especially with the AMG exterior package. First world problems I guess.

EQS 580
As promised, I started the EQS 580 consumption testing. These are all 73 mph cruise control, Eco setting but with interior temp at 73F and seat heating on (not skimping on comfort). Looks like in very cold weather there is a substantial penalty (I expected that, perhaps not to the high degree). Advice for those who order: if you are concerned of the winter range loss, order your car with 21" summer tires, buy from Mercedes or aftermarket 19" winter wheel and tire set.

As expected. The tires won't make much of a difference , particularly if they are snow tires. People make much ado about the tires, the fact is that the penalty is around 3%. The issue in not the wheel diameter, its the width. The 20 is 255 the 21 is 265 a 5 mm difference virtually nothing. Same thing with EV optimized tires, the difference is less than 2%.

The EQS has a lot of parasitic systems which are principally evident in cold weather, heated steering wheel, heated massage, heated windshield, preheated cabin, high power stereo, 3 screens, yadayadyada. The car is made for luxurious comfort, one of the reasons it weighs 3 tons! It is not made to be #1 efficient.

2022 EQS 450+
With the recent temps here in South Texas being in the 20's, it has made a difference. I have noticed an immediate drop in the SOC prediction of mileage of 15-30 miles when I start it up cold to go somewhere. It performs flawlessly, just has a major drop in SOC predictive mileage. Will be interesting to see how much this improves over the next week as the temperatures move back into the 60's .

19" wheels have 235 tires. From what I can find on winter tires, narrower is also better for traction grip - hence offers to go -1 or -2 on wheel diameter. From the picture I suspect the wheel may also be more aerodynamically friendly. My guess is about 5-10% gain between those. Planning to get them as soon as offered in US - probably for next season. In summer 21" wheels will not matter at all. If the curve stays similar, car will have 350 miles range at 80F, which is plentiful - and a little over the advertised range.

As much as the drop is significant, it is expected - as you said. This is however my first EV that can do my usual 180mile trip in -10F weather. If equipped with smaller tires it would do even better.

One thing driving at -10F: I never had the sensation of cold. The windows are standard yet provide excellent thermal isolation.

Overall color me happy.

Those look pretty good for an aero wheel.

No 19s in the USA that I know of...as of yet. Those in the pic look good. If my car gets here before April, I'll have to figure it out then. In my experience, a sidewall difference of 2 wheel sizes plus the difference inherent to winter wheels makes the handling feel much worse. Personally, I would not go -2. There are very good sport winter tires in 20inch. Like the Blizzack LM005. My favorite, the Michelinpilot sport, are not available in 255 20 ☹️ For 21 there are only 2 tires Vrederstein and the Pirellis. The pirellis are pretty mediocre in my experience. To add insult to injury, they are more than 600 dollars each, unbelievable.

Any battery charge left at the end?

Thanks. This is very useful info. For your range number are you assuming some % lof battery charge left at the end? (Perhaps 5 or 10% of charge left?)

@c4004matic I usually do these tests starting at 100% immediately after charging (so battery is warm) and go on a 180mile trip. I did not have enough time these days, so I only did half distance - 80-90 miles each datapoint. The total theoretical range is estimated from percentage battery change and consumption. I am planning to do a close to full discharge test this week-end - if no snow.

Thats what most reviewers do. Expect a big hit if its below 32 degrees.

Yes to question 1. No clue about question 2, someone else will have to answer

So I placed a deposit on the EQS 580 back on April 22, 2021, I was first on the order sheet whenever my dealer received an allocation. I would touch base with my sales associate on a monthly basis and found that they received two allocations, one for the demo 580 and one that was given to a local CEO, bypassing my order, which I was fine with as this CEO’s company was supplying parts to MB for the EQS vehicles. Fast forward to today, I receive a call from the sales associate informing me that shockingly an EQS AMG initial edition was on their inventory sheet, produced and awaiting transport from Germany to Baltimore. I was given first opportunity to buy the vehicle and after receiving the cars build sheet with Vin # I couldn’t pass it up. Sometimes patience pays off.

Glad for you - it will be an awesome car. And with your build we now know that AMG EQS will start at $141,500 in US. I think this is first time I see the price.

Same here. I thought one pedal driving was the greatest on our Tesla S Perf until we got the Taycan 4s and the coasting is great.

Just use automatic regen. It chooses the best regen mode by using the radar. It unerringly chooses the best mode for traffic conditions. It also has a practically normal pedal feel. I loved it. Though the car gives you multiple choices they could have just used auto mode since it works amazingly well. If they had done so, you wouldn't have all the reviwers whinning about how weird the pedal feels on max regen mode, duh! There are 3 other modes to choose from, which feel just fine!

No, which sucks. I don't love the PCM interface and in fact it's my biggest point of dissatisfaction with the car. Other than that I love it.

With apologies to those of you living in colder climates, I must say that the EQS loves warm temps. Wife and I went for a three hour drive in the Texas Hill Country just north of SA today. Speed limit driving 60-65 most of the time. Hilly, curvy roads, sunshine and mid 60's for temps. I had charged last night to 100% in anticipation of this. When we returned, the SOC predicted 270 miles(69%) left on the battery.....after three hours of driving, right at 140 miles. I'm pretty impressed.
