If you like one pedal and no regen but dont want to be flipping modes, auto mode is for you! I have found it is very good choosing the mode most appropriate for the traffic situation. Its all about offering a variety of settings to so you can chhose your own favorite. I use mostly normal since I live an area with very little traffic and it simulates what I have been doing for 40 years best. When I go to Chicago I go full regen.

What do you mean by full regen when driving to Chicago? Surely, by “full regen” you don’t mean strong regen, right? Normal or Auto regen are much better for highway driving, right?

What is the advantage of intelligent mode over normal mode when using adaptive cruise/distronic. I haven’t seen any advantage so what am I missing?
I find it quite efficient, often remaining on 0% power used for long periods of time, and using small bits of regen to control descent. I also find it much more judicious than my foot is with applying small amounts of power to maintain speed. It is very interesting to watch the car work in this mode. However, after trying it multiple times, I find it only minimally more productive in mpkWh than I am using strong regen in traffic. So I will probably only use it on long highway trips in adaptive CC. I think this is where it can offer benefits which resemble autonomous driving, if I just pay attention and steer. I like the control of OPD in strong regen in traffic. I just feel more comfortable doing it myself. On highway trips in adaptive CC anyway, why not let AUTO do it's thing?
