EQS
Potential EQS 580 Buyer

Hi,
New to MB, I like the EQS 580 and would like your opinions.

Would you buy it again?
Is the touch screen still laggy or has that been fixed by software updates?
Any major issues with all the new tech?
Thanks

I’ve owned my EQS580 for two months now and I have had zero issues. I love everything about it. God willing, I’ll buy a new EQS580 in 3 years or less.

lag issue has been fixed. Streaming video is smooth now. Was never that bad anyway except for the streaming. Better than my previous Tesla.

I just bought my second. Upgraded from a premium to a more loaded model.

Thanks for the replies.

What do people you see out on the street think about the exterior styling? Some of the comments on YouTube seen harsh.

The design is not for everyone. But color selection can affect this too. I have owned 2 EQSs - the first was in plain Jane Black. The other is matte gray. Both cars have had situations where people come up to them look at them, complement me on the car. I have had this happen outside the St Regis hotel (another guest complemented the car and called his son over to look), at traffic lights, in parking lots, at the office, etc. This said:

1) I think the issue with the EQS is that in a traditional color with it's chrome trim, the car just looks like a young car with old man clothes.
2) To quote my own dealer, in a gloss finish the car looks like an egg because it is so smooth and aerodynamic. But in matte you can see the lines of the car more clearly and it gives it a more sculptured look.

Here is a picture of my Black EQS to illustrate. It doesn't look bad, but you can see that while the silhouette is modern and sleek, - the chrome on the windows and the bottom part of the doors are an older aesthetic and take away from the modern look.

2) On the other hand my Matte Grey EQS with Night Package (black window and door trim) looks much more Sporty and quite frankly looks better than my previous Panamera Turbo S (current generation). There is something about the Matte-Satin gray paint, combined with the Glossy black accents which just lends a sporty appearance.

The same thing is evident from the front.

That bottom photo makes the car look great! Actually all of the pictures look good, I think the style is growing on me.

I definitely agree with your analysis. Selenite Grey Magno is easily my top choice, although I’ve never owned a matte car before and probably too careless to own one

I think my top choice for metallic paints would probably be Nautical Blue. I just think it fits the car very well. There’s also some pics on here of Cardinal Red that look good. That being said, AMG-Line is a must, the Luxury Line front end is not pleasing at all imo.

Agree. Also I find the chrome trim still looks modern on the Blue. But that is the only color where it works IMO.

My 580 has the matt gray paint shown by the original poster. I also think that this sets off the car's styling in a positive way. More so than the traditional paint. If you go that route, be prepared to have the entire car wrapped in PPF. The matt finish is not easily repaired.

Personally I think that is unnecessary. Unless you have a track record getting scratches on your car that need buffing out. I had a BMW M5 for 2.5 years (roughly the longest I own a car), Full front PPF - not whole car. Paint was immaculate when I sold it.

People always tell me matte paint is very delicate. I actually find the opposite. It is very durable. You can wash the car every 4-6 weeks and it will look clean all the time because it hides dirt. It shows no micro scratches so it always looks perfect, which is not true on any gloss finish.

And BTW if you ever need to buff a panel and damage the matte finish by polishing it, you can always PPF that panel which will essentially put in place a matte top layer restoring the original look.

Also BTW if you are going to PPF the whole car, you would be better off buying the regular Selenite Grey and applying Matte PPF. it will achieve the exact same final look, and save you $3500 on the matte paint option when you are going to cover it with matte PPF anyway.

Just got my build date. July 27. I’m getting the matte gray and was debating whether to wrap the car or not. After reading the last couple of posts I think I will hold off. And it does make sense if you’re going to wrap the entire car it’s a waste to select the matte finish when you can get the same effect with regular paint and matte film.

Yes that's my view. Front end PPF is usually $2000 and full car around $5000. The cost of matte paint is $3250. So you can see it's pretty much breakeven between matte car with full front PPF, and non matte car with full body PPF.

On my EQS SUV I am doing full matte PPF, but only because the Alabama factory doesn't do matte paint.
