No joy there either. That's almost to the original place I first tried. I know the transponder works as it works when I open the sun roof and hold it outside.
So what you're also saying is the image in the owner's manual is wrong?

And so much for the built in toll transponder. Boy, that went south fast.
As many other things, self closing doors, lighted seatbelt buckles, suspension that can be raised, much larger color pallete for interior lighting and others. Blame the frigging chips!
My dealer tells me the transponder is in the correct location (upper center of windshield) but can't tell me why it only works about 25% of the time.

My state doesn't require a front plate, but has anyone ever mounted a transponder on one?
I mounted a transponder for the DFW toll tag system near where the front plate would be. It was about 6 inches long and only worked for my gated community. The times I went trough a toll sensor, they had to use the license plate photo to bill me.

The front plate unit was too ugly and big to use in the car. I have a toll tag sticker mounted in the correct area but it does not ever read correctly. hence the license plate reader. For my gated community they gave me a tiny stick
on clear unit for my headlight which is really slick and I believe the future of this technology.

How did you mount the transponder to the license plate? Does the transponder need to be enclosed in a case for weather protection?
These transponders have a "permanent" battery that is NOT "permanent. I have ez-pass issued transponders and NJ ez-pass sent me new ones due to the battery, when I complained that they only worked intermittently.
I hate the way these look so cut and pasted a black label over the identity portion then black spray painted the rest of the unit, both sides, then stuck to the windshield.
Left the black label on but can peel off if every necessary and the unit all but disappears from both inside and outside the vehicle.
The good news is I finally found the area of the lower windshield in the center that's cut-out for a transponder. Bad news is, it didn't word there either. My dealer is crickets on hooking me up with an Illinois 450 or 580 owner who has actually had luck with an installation, not on a front license plate.

Did you have your windows including the windshield tinted?
Sorry if I am necroing this, but just wanted to note that I use my California FasTrak inside the EQS580 in one of the cupholders and it works fine. Maybe the readers FasTrak uses are much more sensitive? I do not have the heated windshield option.
I like it near me since we now have Express Lanes that you have to change the occupancy setting on the transponder from 1 to 3 based on how many people are in the car.
Problem solved. I'm using a Sly Bracket (no drilling of holes) plus a laser cut (Mandalorian no less) plate, to allow for ventilation for the batteries. And my passengers don't have to look at a transponder sticking in front of their face.
I have tried all kinds of tricks to get my transponder to work from the front windshield. I had it in the specified rectangle but still it would not scan. Finally I gave up and put it on the sunroof which seems to work.

I tried that as well. No joy. There's one other spot that I have a gate transponder that works pretty well and that's on the small side window in the front on the driver's side.. I wish I had tried my toll transponder there before going to the touble of mounting a front license plate holder.
