"Michelin placed 18 engineers and tire specialists throughout the pit lane and paddock to assist teams in monitoring tire pressures, double stints, and tire changes throughout the race. The Michelin service provider brought in large heaters to use in the tire pre-mount and mounting areas to add a few degrees of temperature to the tire sidewalls before mounting, which took place all night."
"Michelin teams will have two temperature range versions of the company’s second generation tires designed for IMSA specific tracks: We have Michelin medium/cool temperature tires designed for cooler temperatures such as during the night and medium/medium temperature tires for warmer track conditions.”

I was just looking at the lineup for this weekends 24 Hours of Daytona, which I have attended multiple times. I noticed that the ambient temps may drop into the high 40's at night. Geez....I sure hope those guys packed their winter tires for this race.............................................. .........................OK, I'll stop now.

Interesting about about the power reduction. WE HAVE THE MOST AGRESSIVE SNOW TIRES ON THE PLANET Nokian Hakkapelitta 10 studded Ev on the 450 + because we live in ICY and Snowy Vermont. They are surprisingly quiet for studded because they have foam in them (the Ev model) Enjoy!
This morning after dropping my wife off at work, I was returning home, which should typically take 5 minutes. As it was snowing (mild), I was driving carefully, and it started skidding frequently. I reduced my speed to 10-15 mph. There is a slight incline on the way to my home. The car stopped and began to move at 1 to 2 miles per hour. However, all other vehicles were moving at average speeds without any skidding! It took me 46 minutes to move the last 0.5 to 0.6 miles to my home. I changed from comfort to sports mode and back and even from strong to normal recuperation, which made no difference. After about 40 minutes or so, the power improved, and I reached home. I called "me" Mercedes through the car, and they felt it could be due to summer tires, which will not have enough traction. I can't believe that having summer tires will reduce the power to move forward! I am not sure if Mercedes electric cars are ready for prime time yet! I noticed every other car driving quite normally, and sitting and moving at 1-2 mph in a luxury car wasn't very comfortable.
Did this happen to anyone? Is it the tires?
Thank you.

In fact the car has a "severely restricted driving mode" which will limit speed in any direction. It can be defeated on the screen or by disabling the vehicle stability assist (VSA). Using summer tires on any type of snow is extraordinarily dangerous particularly given that these vehicles have so much torque. If you must, use eco mode to try to reduce wheel spin. The severely restricted mode engages when the VSA detects that it can't obtain traction on any wheel. BTW, the amount of snow on the road is immaterial, 1/4 of an inch of snow, can be more slippery than 5 inches, it all depends how icy the snow is.
