EQS 580 and IPass Toll

No setting - The front windshield has a coating that prevents my IPass transponder from transmitting to the toll both as I drive thru. There are 2 spots on the windshield that do not (supposably) contain the coating. I have my transponder mounted there but it is not working

Guys dont forget to use the search . There are multiple threads on how to do exactly that. For brevity here it goes... Like essentially all MBs with heat rejecting glass, there are 2 "windows" for devices. One in the center lower part of the windshield and one at the top about 3 inches to the top passenger side to the camera sensor pod/ rear view mirror. If you angle the beam of a flash light on the windshield they become visible.

Yes thank you I know how to search and use the manual. The transponder is mounted in the correct area but still does not register. In fact my condo garage transponder also does not work in either noted areas.

I wonder, did you try different orientations of the transponder? Or is optical (laser read) rather than radio? The "windows" are not true holes thet are more like a "sieve" infrared lasers cant read through it. I use I pass through it without a problem, the little white box not the sticker type.

They are both radio types one is a white box (IPass) and one is a sticker. I have tried many orientation finally got the garage sticker to work on the small driver side triangle window but no luck on IPass

Here's my thread on this topic.

I finally gave up and mounted it on the front even though my state is a one license plate state.
The one spot I didn't try is the small side window just in front of the driver window. I have a gate fob mounted there and it works fine.

Check amplitude
I just received my new 2023 EQS 580 and set up both a garage door opener and gate opener into the on board system. Both worked through the glass. However it is possible that reflected energy was going through the side windows. Check your batteries if running a battery operated remote as low battery can result in less power/amplitude in the signal.
I will try my RFID SunPass shortly and will run a spectrum analyzer and signal generator when I get a chance at the office. This will identify what frequencies are blocked etc.

I live in South Florida and use a sticker for our turnpike. It is attached it to the winshield about half to one inch to the right of the rearview mirror in my 2022 EQS 580 sedan. Never had a problem.

Same problem - never thought of sunroof
I had intermittent problems with all interior locations with the multiple white plastic transponders for both iPASS (Illinois, Indiana) and EZPass (Ohio). I tried both of the MB specified locations on front windshield.
Next, I had 60% success with mounting exterior style black transponder to rear plate, (not running a front plate). Finally mounted it inside the lower front plastic grill with heavy duty Velcro, not blocking the automatic adjusting covers and got it working nearly all the time. Some plazas still would not read it.
Just installed the sticker last week, hoping it would work better as the tollway told me it would. No luck.
I have a spare sticker and will try it on sunroof today’s road trip.

Sunroof Confirmed Working
I mounted it at the rear edge of the sunroof behind driver’s head so I can never see it.
We’ll see if it works with EZPass in the future.

Thanks and please update with EZPass results! I have had to find specific toll booths which can reliably pick up the tag.

Confirmation- EZPass Sticker on sunroof worked everywhere
Just did an out and back in the 580 from Chicago to D.C. Sticker mounted in sunroof behind driver at back edge so it is out of sight.
Worked in IL, IN, OH, PA, DC(can’t verify last two they don’t have any with gates).
