BMW X Drive 50 loaner
Impressions:
The good:
Fast
Good handling
Quiet
The OK:
Powerfull linear brakes, but grabby and maybe too immediate.
The bad:
Nervous ride except on perfect asphalt. Not harsh but jittery
No radar cruise
No self steer
No seat lumbar adjustment! WTF!
No adjustable suspension.
Charging curve is pretty bad at 70% its doing 90 KW and once you pass 80% it plummets quickly!
Just shows that even in their most expensive model, BMW is nickle and diming for tech that is standard on a CRV hybrid that costs 1/2 the price. The charging curve means DC fast charging to over 80% is completely useless. The interior is full of cheap plastic. The UI is "simple" because it doesn't do much. The audio is simply OK.
Overall, MB wins hands down. Aside from more "nomal feeling brakes its all downhill from there.
Finally its a white car, which makes the horrible grill look 4 times as gross.
In general the desing in and out is trying to look edgy to its own dtriment abd lack of standard features.

A GLARING omission no paddles to control regen. No voice assistance, no sound modes. In fact tgere seem to be no real drivetrain modes at all all that seems to change is the decor of the screens. Again our CRV is vastly better equipped than this SUV.
Camera is mediocre, No 360 view.

@c4004matic specifically which model are you referring to? There is no X Drive 50.

Sounds like a pretty base model. Higher spec will of course be much better. BMW's tech is way, way ahead of MB you just have to option it into the vehicle. Everything you say its lacking is available, and way more tech than MB has available

Thats not a BMW model lol, thats the trim/power. Its a *SOMETHING* XDrive 50. Like I said, thats like saying its a "Mercedes 450 4Matic" that doesnt tell us much. Is it an S, GLS, EQS? etc.
Post a picture of the whole vehicle and we will tell you what it is.

I assume its an iX? As you can see from this picture, iX is circled in red, thats the model, XDrive 50 is circled in blue, thats the badge telling you its AWD and what power/battery package it has.

Impressions from 200 mile drive. Great drive! But as mentioned peviously a little more ride motions than expected on less than smooth roads though never harsh or uncomfortable. Range about 305 or so at 55F and 70- 75 mph. Charges welll but not as fast as the EQS. However, the 87K price is pure hogwash, I have never seen a "luxury" vehicle so bereft of equipment, It doesnt even have lumbar adjustment for the seat, WTF! No radar cruise, No lane centering, no 360 camera, no rear steer, no adjustable suspension. If the modes change anything other than the UI screens I cant tell. The UX is simpler than MBUX simply because there is nothing to adjust since the car is equipped to the same level as an entry level VW! The handling feels sporty because there is almost no body lean, its also feels very very secure at high speed, however, the drive has a sort of detached robotic feel to it. I do like the brake feel compared to the EQS, much more direct which gives you more confidence at high speeds. I actually miss the EQS fake sound since it gives a measure of what is actually happening when accelerating or slowing down thus feels more enagaing to drive. I really dont like the UI, feels cheap and gimmicky. In general the EQ feels more polished and "luxurious" in every dimension.

The EV 7 series is the i7, EV 4 Series is the i4, etc.
Good!

Actually understanding what you're telling us is not a nitpicky thing lol
BMWs are just like that, you have to option them properly. The one you are driving is clearly a very low spec car, if you optioned it like an EQS it would be cheaper for more content.

I just spent some time on the configurator. Adding all the glaring omissions on a luxury EV is another 20k!!! And you still have no rear wheel steer. The turning circle is appropriate for a car its size but compared to the EQS its pretty big.
Bottom line,I like how the car performs, the "lux" is a little wanting and essential equipment standard on cheaper cars cost dearly.

Yep, german options are expensive. Mercedes vehicles have a lot of options too. They feel very nice inside optioned up well, I just think the interior design is weird. I think the EQS is weird inside too but I like it better than the iX (not the i7)

I sat in the iX and I hated everything about it from materials to design. It looked so incredibly cheap. The car had gotten fabulous reviews so I was really looking forward to it. I sat in the i7 right after and loved that though. I thought I was going to order an iX that day but walked out ordering an i7 and haven't looked back.
