Open the EQS Sedan Hood: Nostalgic!

MB pulled a fast one on me. The last time I had to use a wooden stick to hold up my hood was back in the 1980s when the the prop/struts on my Oldsmobile gave out. The hood back then was much heavier than the aluminum EQS.

This in 2024 on a Mercedes?

Mercedes has a proven track record of coming up with crap hood designs. At 6'-2" my back hates me whenever I have to do anything under the hood on the 560SL.

Verboten! You didn't read the fine print. You're now in violation of the MB ToS (Terms of Service) and CoC (Code of Conduct).

I would ask MB to define 'qualified specialist workshop." I need this workshop to clean out or replace my HEPA filter? My daughter's hamster crawled under the hood. I need a workshop for this stuff?

I open mine about twice a year to clean any leaf litter or debris tha accumulates under the hood. The only thing to keep in mind is closing it correctly since there are muliple latches. Grab it in the area of the MB badge, raise it about 2 feet and drop it straight down. Check the alignment in the front part of the fenders, if one or both are not in perfect alignment one of the latches is open. If so.....wash, rinse and repeat. Do not try to simply push it in, it will invariably leave one or both side latches open.

Wow!!! Is it really worth it to to go through all that just to open it up? I prefer to think of what's under the hood as one of life's little mysteries.....

The hood on the sedan is really easy to open and close To close, lower the lightweight aluminum hood down to the close position. With both hands placed near the leading edge and on top where the two latches are located, and press snap. Hood closed like a piece of cake. You do this on just about any modern day car with an aluminum hood. No slapping, folk.

The problem is keeping the hood open because there are no prop or struts although there are ball studs for them at least on the hood end.

MB wants to save $100/vehicle on these. The other problem is there is no secondary safety latch on 'some' production vehicles. I predict there will be recalls.
