2021 EQS 580 4Matic
Rear Wheel Steering Angle

Hi guys, since I pick up my 2022 EQS 580 in a couple of days (!), I'm researching a lot of the questions I have and a lot of answers are turning up here - what a great resource

Apologies in advance for all of the (almost) newbie questions that I may have in the coming days. Current question I can't find the answer to: how do I know what rear wheel steering angle I have? I understand that 4.5 is the standard and it will go up to 10 or so. Now, I know that different markets either provide 10 as standard, 10 as pay-per-annum or 10 as pay-once. FYI - my car is a Portuguese national car (where I'm based). So, is there a way of knowing which I have? There's nothing specific in the spec for the steering angle I have but I do have option 201 AMG rear axle steering.... Any ideas?

201 is the code for 4.5 degree from the factory. It's technically called small angle RWS though it's not a standardized value, can be as little as 2.5 on some cars, 3.6 on some, 4.5 on some, I think the AMG GT 4 Door is even smaller. 216 is the code for "large angle RWS", usually either 9 or 10 degrees model dependant, from the factory. So if you don't subscribe to an increase, you probably have 4.5 right now.

Thanks, that's great information and clarifies things for me! Much appreciated

24 EQS 580 4matic sedan Pinnacle trim w/Exec. rear seating pkg.
The 10 degree Rear Axle Steering feature in this vehicle is a surprising but highly practical addition that significantly enhances the driving dynamics of this car, despite its considerable length. This feature allows for greater control and maneuverability, particularly in tight spaces or when navigating challenging driving conditions. Its impressive impact on performance is a testament to its technical sophistication and engineering excellence.
The feature in question has transitioned from being a supplementary option to a mandatory requirement IMHO!

Question rear wheel steering changed to 10 degrees

2022 EQS 580 with standard 4.5 degree rear wheel steering.
Centre screen went blank this morning after returning to car from grocery store. Error messages about navigation/parktronic etc systems not operative. The screen recovered later and a message indicating that 10 degree rear wheel steering is now turned on.
Is this a bonus from Mercedes?

Are the EQS 450+ and 580 in the U.S. all 10 degree rear steering?

I think EQS SUVs delivered with staggered wheels may be limited to 9 degrees.

Nearly all of them, there's some pretty early built 2022 Sedans with only 4.5.

I was backing out of my son's very tight garage last weekend, and he was watching. He was like....wow, that thing can crab walk or something! I was like....yea, pretty cool, huh? I love the rear wheel steering.

Try doing a VIN look up here: https://mb.vin/

For example, my EQE SUV with 10 degree rear wheel steering (which I absolutely LOVE), shows up in the VIN decoder as option:

216
Rear axle steering with large angle

For the US market, vins after 002000 shoulld all have the 10 degree, before that you're taking a risk. especially around 001200 or before.

As for how to tell, do a vin check or look on the build sheet for code 216. 216 is for the big angle, 201 is the code you want to avoid as that's the small angle.

The mb.vin site downloaded and wants me to execute a smartpdfpro file. Is that file safe?

I just checked it and it's working for me. I use an ad blocking browser so there is no chance for me to click a fake submit button that's really a hidden ad.

I am using Brave browser but maybe your existing browser allows an ad blocking extension. From my phone's Brave browser, it looks like this. If I turn off the ad block, the page is riddled with very scammy looking ads.

I see what Wildta sees.
I use FireFox and Norton 360 on Windows 10.
I have had no problems with this and nothing has flagged it as spyware/malware, etc.
