Power upgrade EQS

Is the $3,000 power upgrade to Mercedes EQS 450 4matic sedan worth it? Any feedback positive or negative that anyone is willing to share?
MB alleges that it adds 80 hp of power and reduces 0-60 mph acceleration time from 5.3 to 4.5 sec.

Does it involve hardware or is it just a software change? Seems like it's turning it into an EQS 500 4matic, which maybe is the same drivetrain. I'm wondering if even the 580 is the same parts with just different software, means the margin on them is good and the longevity of the 450 will be good if it's that over specced.

Thanks for the links. I may go for it if I get a bonus or commission sometime I don’t have pre allocated. I got the 4Matic in order to have slightly more performance than the +, but getting even closer to the 580 without paying for one is attractive.

You're welcome. I am generally against subscriptions, especially when the hardware is already there, for example bmw with their heated seats which backfired, but in your case if the extra power is needed or you would appreciate it and it works for you then I understand but at the same time, it is better to vote with our wallet.

I already voted with my wallet by buying a one year old car for less than 50% of its sticker I remember a decade ago when Cisco started artificially rate limiting their devices unless you paid for the performance upgrade and being livid about it. Guess I’ve spent long enough being warmed in the pot that I’m now acclimated

Yes, it is 500

Thanks for noticing that 450 is actually crippled 500, not 580 as everyone else assumed at the above links. One excuse is that 500 is not sold in North America.

I can't believe Cisco did that to you ;-( Ha, ha, ha. I'm old enough to remember the better innocent years of Cisco :-) It's all subscriptions nowadays.

HP upgrade 30 day free trial

I experienced the "horsepower upgrade" on my 2023 EQS 450 4Matic during a free 30-day trial. The difference was immediately noticeable, especially during highway driving where I felt a significant boost in acceleration above 60 mph. I thoroughly enjoyed the enhanced performance and utilized it whenever possible. However, despite the noticeable improvement, I ultimately decided not to purchase the upgrade due to the cost.

I'm 47 years old; is that considered young for the EQS demographic, lol?

100% agree.
I wish they offered it for the 580......But of course they would rather have you pay 20k for the AMG 😞

It is because EQE exists, that caters to the even younger demographic.

We've got a 580, but my dad has an EQE 500 sedan I sometimes drive. Both are awesome. The EQE sedan being a little smaller makes it feel sportier. Both fun in their own way.

The magic sauce to make the EQS 580 more fun to drive is the Michelin PS4. Their very grippy nature banishes understeer and makes the EQS feel less heavy and more tossable. I would be willing to bet that 85% of the handling delta of the 580 and the AMG is the tire upgrade.

580 is a lot faster than a power boosted 450. Real 0-60 on a 580 is around 3.7.

Fair enough hence why I heard forum members going eqe 53 or simply called eqe amg in north america. They also said the ride is improved compared to the EQS surprisingly.

Or go full out and get PS 5 whenever that is available in these sizes obvious sacrifices would be range though instead of staying with ev tires.

Correct. with "rollout" its 3.7. "realtime" its 4 flat as measured with the trackpace MB app. No special techniques required same times over and over. The AMG overboost lowers the 0-60 to 3 but the quarter doen't change too much.
what the AMG lacks is a 2 speed transfer case (a la Porsche) that would lop that 1/4 by at least a second dropping it to the 10 second range.

Im sure there will be an EV version like the PS4 MOE. Given that they are summer only tionlythuer e use is offset somewhat by the fact that they are being used when the battery is running at optimal temps. I'd love to hear about the range in AZ Fla Texas and so on since I don't have any reference for range in real day after day hot weather.

3.0 seconds. 4.1 seconds. 4.8 seconds. All just way fast. Going to Target, the grocery store or work, all models we are talking about exceed any normal driving circumstances. I realize some people want the most blistering fast car available for special circumstances, but in day to day life all are great. I actually find the AMGs a little scary...they are like a gun that you have to handle well and know where you are pointing it.

Yup true that. The gasoline models literally sounds like a gun too when it bangs in overpass.
