Advice and thoughts on the EQS
Hello, I'm new here and I've been reading the posts for the past several days.
I'm in the market for my first EV. I am looking to buy used as it's probably going to be an experiment for me. I currently drive a M850i and my wife drives a BMW X6M.
I do not like the BMW options. I have looked at the Tesla Model S, but not a huge fan.
Drove a 22 EQS 450+ yesterday with only 7k miles. Loved the comfort of it and how the seats fit me. The only issue was I'd prefer a newer one (maybe a 2024?).
Some things I like so far; I love the factory battery warranty. No one else seems to come close. I like the look of it, I know many don't, but I do. I particularly like it in white or silver.
the Lucid touring or Grand Touring interest me, but the warranty is lesser and I see so many issues of software and also there's no physical dealership/service center near me (2.5 hrs away in DFW). Mercedes is 10 minutes from my house.
My questions:
if you were going to buy used:
1. What year would you buy?
2. What are things I should look at?
3. Likes and dislikes?
4. Options you feel are "must have"?
Anyway, you all have provided a lot of information for me to digest!

We get snow but nothing generally crazy.
Maybe a few inches per year on average with the occasional snow storm every three or four years
As an owner of a '22 EQS580 living in the midwest, getting the '24 model year or newer with the heatpump is a necessity if you drive long distances and live where it gets cold. My range drops hard when the temps go below 30 degrees F.
Be sure and get the Pinnacle trim, acoustic comfort, and laminated glass options. They are absolutely wonderful vehicles.
I too considered the Lucid, but my concerns were the same as yours, so I went with a tried and true manufacturer with a great warranty.

If you have one you are looking at and need to know what's on it exactly, go to mb.vin and look it up.
I'm in DFW and have zero problems with range on cold days. I have a 23 EQS sedan with every possible option. We are currently suffering from extreme cold down here as you know. It was down to 35 degrees this morning!!!!! I'm waiting for the National Guard to be deployed at any moment.
I'm not a buyer of Lucid although I loved many things about the car. I think they are a software team replacement away from being a spectacular car. I am an owner of LCID stock and I will sit on that until it goes to zero or goes to the MOON! Heh. I think there are so many great things about the Lucid, but I didn't want to live with one until they fix that software. The software is the only thing holding it back.

- Get a 2024 - much better brake feel plus heat pump technology
- Pinnacle trim - stand out leather interior and finishes
- Acoustic comfort, and laminated glass options - super SUPER quiet
- Rear axle steering - unbelievable maneuverability
All in all, our EQS and EQE have been two of the most fantastic cars we've ever owned.

Seeing that you are a bimmer guy (me too), go with a 23' or newer EQS AMG. Executive seating, pinnacle, etc., and trade in your 850i unless you like to pump gas.
22" not required. Once you get used to it, don't be disappointed in your 850i. It's a fine car.
Dislikes: a bit overweight on the curves but corners well on most roads due to the techies. The styling won't grow on you like a BMW. You either like from the beginning or not.

I'd recommend getting a BMW iX if you want the SUV.
What year?
If you are looking for a sedan than I think as of now the 2023 is the sweet spot.
The bugs of 22 were worked out and yes its missing the hyperscreen (if you get the 450) and the brake is a bit weird but the updates solved most of the issue and you get used to the brakes fast.
2024's are still at the 60's and the 2023's are hitting high 30's and low to mid 40's. I don't think 24 is 20K better car than a 23.
What are the things?
EQS's are low maintanence vehicle and all of them have 2 years of free maintanence.
I would look at cosmetic stuff and the tires mostly.
However, EQS Sedan is a low vehicle with lots of bottom scraping so make sure to check the bottom of the vehicle before you buy. I'd say that is the most important.

1. No Gas
2. Low maintanence (compared to a S-class)
3. Smooth ride
4. Tech and features
5. Large trunk and comfortable seats.
Dislikes
1. Brake feel
2. Outside looks (subjective)
3. Tires wear out fast! (Though you get about 20 to 25K miles with good tires stock only last 15K)
Options?
Car is loaded in the base form.
I'd get the multicontour seats and the air purifier as a must.
My current EQS has the upgraded Nappa interior. Unless if you plan to clean it every other week with leather cleaner and conditioner, I'd stick with the base leather seat, which is more durable.
If you constantly have people in the back then executive seat pkg is worth it.
EQS sedan has been the MOST reliable MB I had so far with no rattles and squeaks.
The worst being my 2015 C300 that MB bought back. 2019, 2020 S450 and E350 have served me well, but they had little bit of issues here and there; however, the EQS has been trouble-free and rattles-free.

2023 EQS 580 SUV, 2024 EQE 500 SUV, 2024 F150 King Ranch PowerBoost, 1997 BMW M3 Sedan
We thought the IX drove nice but is not nearly as luxurious as our EQE SUV. The interior feel of the IX is more utilitarian and reminds me of a Tesla, which isn’t bad, if that’s what you are looking for.
We prefer the quiet luxurious ride and interior feel of our EQE and EQS over all the others we drove.
Ended up buying a 23 450+, pretty basic, no hyperscreen etc but it only had 7k miles and one owner.
Love it so far.
My thoughts are to drive it a bit and see how I like the EV and I'll upgrade if I like it.
It's white. I'm thinking of doing a chrome delete and also wrapping the spoiler in black.
Fun car so far. Not much power but I've got the other for that.
Love it so far.

Enjoy, I think you got the right car at the right time.
I thought the suv was great. It felt like halfway between a GLC and a GLE. The road manner car like and the range was respectable.
I then drove an EQS 450+ SUV to kinda replace our minivan (22 Kia Carnival SX) when the deal was great. However, it was way too floaty for me.
I was getting motion sickness while driving. I have to say I felt the same way when driving a similar vehicle, including Range Rover (Full Body), Lexus LX and etc (Friends and Family's).
If you like that kinda of a ride and I assume many of you do then it make sense.
However, when I got to drive my friend's BMW IX 50i.. the ride was exactly on point not floaty like the EQS SUV or not to hard like the EQE SUV (Standard Suspension).
No motion sickness, badass audio, comfy seats. Also IX has better range then either of the SUV's MB offers.
If you don't need 7 seats and need an EV SUV I'd get the IX no doubt.
Great alternative is a Kia EV9 Land, the ride is in my opinion better then the EQS SUV and its more equipped.
It is skeptical to spend 70K on a Kia but I felt like for the vehicle itself it is 100% worth it.

Be careful of any kind of wrapping as it interferes with the ultrasonic sensors either when first installed or later as it comes loose over time. Wraps are the number one reasons cars come into my dealership according to my service advisor. If you are only doing the spoiler, you may be okay, but make sure there isn't anything active in the spoiler first.
I was just delete the chrome around windows etc with black vinyl. Shouldn't be an issue.
I have 14-50 outlet in the garage do I need a l2 charger? If so which one?
The units that come with the car are usually 7.6kW units which you can use; however, they tend to overheat and reduce charging rates. Since your car has scheduling built in, I would recommend a simple 9.6kW EVSE without WiFi and scheduling. Something like a Lectron unit will work fine. You have no need to spend money for functionality the car already has.

Yes, at different times there have been different units supplied with the car. In my case they were supplying a portable charger with Level 1 and Level 2 capabilities with a max charge rate of 7.6kW.
Bimmers look good with black trims (My e60 and F02) had to have factory black trim. When I got the EQS, it had chrome; I even went as far as pricing out all black trims for replacement. But after awhile, the chrome (to me) looked better on an MB design language. However, your car is white and mine is graphite, so maybe the black trims will look great! As for the NEMA14/50, make sure your wall outlet is rated for heavy duty, or at the least, it is tight and snug when you plug in the charger plug. Hardwire is the safe way to go because you eliminate the possibility of arcing of plugging in and unplugging over time.
Emporia or ChargePoint, or even the MB EV version with J1772 output all works.
You raise a good point about the outlet. If that outlet is a conventional NEMA 14-50, change it to an outlet designed for EV charging or continuous duty. The typical outlet used for ovens and dryers will not be able to take the heat generated over long charging sessions. Ratings statements like "commercial" or "heavy duty" will not be enough, these are designed for more insertions but not continuous, high current applications such as EV charging.
