We'll push for a 11-11:15 roll up at the SPECTRUM and work backwards off that time.

I'm hoping some of the O.C. folks can get to TiaJuanas early and set some parking aside up front for the MB exotics: SLR, CLK-DTM, SMARTS, vintage classics, and super super tuned AMG's, and of course my little Coupé.

All: Here is the scoop on the permit. We do need to fill out an application for a permit, no fee's involved, but we do need the following:

Contact Information: Sgt Anderson (714-724-7000)

1) Site plan (drawing of parking lot, where we are going to put cars, put general public, band/DJ (if there is one), pop-up tents, food, etc. I need details and either I or my friend can draft the AutoCad site plan.

2) This information will be used to determine if they need to send Fire Department, or other building inspectors out to validate.

3) Need to meet with Sgt Anderson by Wed to complete application and go thru logistics. I would do it but that is a 2hr drive for me each way. If no one else can on the board I can ask a friend from the AMG Lounge if he can do this for me.

Please, respond by tonight. Sgt Anderson is emailing me the application and I will try and have completed tonight. He seemed very personable but not too excited that we waited to the last minute to enquire with them, which is understandable if they need extra officers.

Only other concern was with road blockage, closure, delays, etc. I told him I would personnaly police the lot as required to prevent.

here's the deal... It's much easier than what he thinks.

1) Site plan (drawing of parking lot) Last time we used a GOOGLE-Earth screen shot of the parking lot, and all we did is decide what Class of Mercedes was going to go where. So the AMG's were up front next to the restaurant, the E / S / G / CLK / SL / SLK classes were in the middle, and the C-Classes were all along the back. You can print one out from the internet and use that as the site plan layout. Really though, there's nothing to it, but public parking, that's all.

2) We had a small tent near the entrance to the restaurant but did not block the entrance, so no Fire hazard. The parking lot is still general public, so anyone can come and park where ever they want. There is NO band/DJ, NO pop-up tents this time, and all food and beverages will be consumed within the restaurant, of which they are already prepared for the 100+ folks. The parking lot to TiaJuana's is huge because they normally have that many customers during their dinner hours. On Saturday noon to early afternoon, the parking lot is normally empty, and the restaurant is not that busy. That's why we chose this location in the first place. It doesn't upset any normal traffic. No need for road closures, delays, or blocked access, and definitely no need for extra officers.

Please stress these points to him, as we have done this many times previously without incident. The crowd is well behaved, (Mercedes-Benz owners usually are). We police ourselves, and anyone even hinting at doing illegal activity will be cordially asked to leave.

The restaurant is well aware of this event, and they are over-staffing to ensure we are well taken care of (food & drinks). Mercedes-Benz owners left a good impression last time we had a meet at TiaJuanas, leaving very generous tips to the hard-working TiaJuanas' staff.

3) I am unable to make it up to Irvine by this Wednesday, so if any of the O.C. people can help out with this, I would greatly appreciate it. The points above should clear up any questions or confusion. If more information is required, please send me an e-mail or PM me so I can give you my cell phone #.

Let me know if you need help with Irvine PD.
I live a few blocks from them.
Talk with that Sgt. again. This is all on private property.
The only impact is the extra traffic in and out of the parking lot.
This is an industrial out of the way area. So no neighbors or
other problems other than the La Quinta Inn may be lacking some parking
for a few hours. Ask him if the "coffee and cars" meet every Saturday
morning has a permit for the Ford Parking lot ? This will be smaller than that
weekly gathering for sure.

 

i agree on these being in the front.....don;t know about the others

 

as of this moment, I don't know of anyone from AZ or NV coming.

A couple of previous meets we had, there was always one or two from Las Vegas / Henderson area that would show up.
Also, once we had a C-Coupe all the way from New Mexico in one of our SoCal meets.

Hopefully, they'll sign up on the list, and let us know where they are coming from.

The Sgt was familiar with the location and he said a permit was needed for formalities...doesnt sound like a big deal and no fee's. I figure it is a safe gaurd to keep the piece so we can all have fun.

Saprissa:
a) Has anyone gotten ahold of the Unimog group?
b) Is Kleeman and/or Renntech involved (prizes, etc)? If so can/should we add their names to the flyer?
c) How would you feel about creating name plaques for car windshields (handle name, yr, model of vehicle, etc)? I might be able to print but not sure about designing or color print

let me know what other details are needed for the application.

Again, it should be quite simple. We're not blocking anyone, nor are we preventing public access. The restaurant is prepared for our event, and it is scheduled at a time when all other businesses around the restaurant are either closed or at their minimal operating point. The La Quinta hotel is on the other side with their own parking and is in no way affected by our presence. Finally, there will be no drag-racing, burnouts/peelouts, donuts, drifting, or engine blowing !

Mercedes-Benz car owners are civilized lot and will act according to the marques prestige and classy reputation !

a) I e-mailed the UNIMOG guys, but most of them are in San Diego, and not one of them has committed to driving up to Irvine. I gotta start posting on some of the other MB forums to generate more interest in the non-AMG weirdo type MB's.

b) Kleemann / Renntech were initially invited by ling sdsilverm3 and BenzGal, but I'm not sure what happened to that. Any of you guys who are talking to Ling, can find out for us ????? Or Angela, can you chime in on this one ? Someone was supposedly working with Kleemann (JamE55) ???? and Renntech to get them to come.

c) name plaques for the cars is a great idea, but got shot down at the last big TiaJuanas MB meet. I personally think it's a great idea, and I sent out a template last time, so people could include their "screen name", year/model, and a photo of their car. They could place it on the windshield or under their wiper or where ever so people knew whose car was whose.
I can send either a WORD doc or PowerPoint file via e-mail to anyone who wants the template.

What happened to all my love? I deserve to park up front for all the meets I have done in the last couple of years. Look who started this thread cracker. j/k I can't wait to see you again.

My only concern about the cops is the fact that my car is totally illegal. LOL Do you think we will have any problems with that kind of stuff Carlos?

illegal car hmmm ??? I don't foresee any problems whatsoever. Unless you're missing a license plate and current registration stickers, how would they know ? If it goes down just like last time, they'll be parked at the corner near the access road that leads into TiaJuanas. They'll be too busy munching on donuts and waiting for some C230K to pretend it's an AMG !

 

I was thinking of just printing them for everyone and asking them to put under wiper to make us look organizaed. No specific details need to be on them to make anyone uncomfortable. Will also help with organizing parking....thoughts.

3) first come first spot

1) & 2) sound good... I assume you'll just take the name & year/model from our sign up list, correct ? I will also post a map of the parking lot when I get home tonight. It's saved on my home computer from the last TiaJuanas MB meet.

for 3) though, I do need the whole front row / balcony parking reserved.
I promised the SLR, CLK-DTMs, SMARTs, 1950's-1960's, & evosport AMG's those spots.

 

I'm ok with the plate and tint issue...Arizona reg. Exhaust sound is my only worry. I know many members that don't have a front plate and tint. I think Vic has the Eisenmann?
