Motorgen Ortega Canyon/PCH Cruise January 9th

Alright everyone - it's time for another cruise to start the year off! The last cruise had about 45 cars and was a blast (pictures here, here, and here, and video).

The plan is to meet at noon at Savi Ranch in Yorba Linda by Dick's Sporting Goods. The address for the meet up is:

23081 Savi Ranch Pkwy
Yorba Linda, CA 92808

We'll hang out for a half hour and then at 12:30 we'll leave Savi and head down the 15fwy to Ortega Canyon. We'll take the canyon all the way to Dana Point and then continue cruising for 24 miles up Pacific Coast Highway.

Once we get to Beach and PCH we'll head to SuperMex for some lunch. The food is great and I think they have a bar for all you guys that feel like a beer after a long cruise

The entire route is here and I hope to see everyone there!

I'm looking for a good meeting point at the end of Ortega to get everyone back together and to allow those that just want to do PCH to meet up with us. I haven't found anywhere I like so far but I'll post it up as soon as I come up with something. Keep checking here for details.

Less than 2 weeks! Response has been very strong so far - I'm hoping for 50-60 cars

I'll have directions the day of for everyone. I'll also sort out the post Ortega meeting spot in the next couple days. I may drive down to scout a meeting point this weekend.

After looking at the area extensively, I haven't found anything off of Ortega Canyon that I think would be a good meeting spot. Instead, I'm thinking of meeting right at the start of PCH at the Capistrano Valley Plaza Shopping Center. It's a large lot and should be able to fit everyone without worrying about door dings. Here is a map of the area. The reference address for the meeting spot would be:

Smart and Final
34091 Doheny Park Road
Capistrano Beach, CA 92624

We should all be able to turn right out of the lot, and then right again to turn onto PCH so we can stay together better. For those that just want to do the PCH section, I think we could all meet at this lot between 2:15 and 2:30 and leave the lot no later than 2:45ish. That should get us to lunch around 3:30 or so. It's a little late, but the whole day should be a blast. What does everything think, does this sound good? Post your thoughts here.

If possible can everyone please try to bring some cash this Saturday please? It'll be easier to pay for lunch/drinks that way when the bills arrive. I'll have 60 sets of directions ready to go. See you all at noon.

Tomorrow is the day!

Just a couple reminders:

-Their is a gas station at Savi Ranch for those that need to fuel up before we leave.
-We are meeting at noon and leaving the lot at 12:30 (since we are meeting people in the middle I'm going to try to stay on schedule as much as possible).
-I have about 75 sets of directions. I'll hand them out tomorrow before we leave.
-Please try to bring some cash to make things easier at the restaurant (the food is great and they have great salsa!).
-If anyone has any problems give me a call or text @ 714-322-2324. My name is Sean.

See everyone tomorrow!

I want to first thank everyone for showing up - I think we had about 75 cars at Savi which was awesome!

Now I want to apologize - sorry for all the problems today. That accident that closed the 91-15 interchange really fouled things up. I never expected that to happen and unfortunately their really isn't a good alternative route. I know it kind of splintered everyone up and it really slowed us down. I had really worked to have things run smoothly and I feel really bad that it didn't happen.

Ultimately we still had a really large group make it to the end, so thanks for sticking it out with us. We should have video and pictures up here soon.

Sorry again, but thanks for coming everyone!

More pictures and a link to our album here. Also, the video should be up by the end of the day with any luck. Thanks again everyone. I learned some lessons on this one (namely, to always have a backup route around major freeway crashes). The next one will be better

I'm starting to work on planning the next cruise. I'm shooting for Glendora Mountain Road on either Feb. 13th or Feb. 20th. We usually do cruises on the 2nd Saturday of every month, but since Valentines day is the 14th I may move it back. I created a poll and I am looking for input from everyone for which day is better.

Also, I learned some lessons from the last cruise. I am looking to have the staging area where we all meet closer to the actual run. It's hard to get out of Savi with as many cars as we had (over 70) and I think it'll just be easier if we meet close to where we're going. With that in mind, does anyone have any suggestions for locations where we could meet? I know a lot of us in the area run GMR, so I'm hoping somebody will have a great idea.

Finally, I'm also looking for somewhere to eat after we finish the run. Obviously somewhere in the area of the exit of GMR would be preferable. I'm going to look up some options, but if anyone knows any great restaurants or something cool in the area, please post it up. I'm hoping for another large turnout, so it needs to be somewhere than can accommodate all our vehicles and a good amount of people. Thanks again for everyone that came to the last one. If you missed it the thread with pics and video is here.

The thread for the GMR run is here. I hope to see you all next month - THANKS!

Sean
