Bay Area People Want to Meet 3/14?

Since this Sunday seems to be to early for people, I figure we could get a meet together on 3/14. What do you guys think? this way it gives people a couple of weeks to plan ahead. If we get enough people we can decide where and what time.

thanks for the reply

Sounds good. Hopefully it isn't raining. Maybe I'll have the chrome Monoblocks done by then. By the way, has anybody exchanged their stock wheels for chrome through a MBZ dealer? I was thinking that it'd be cheaper to take them and have them chromed myself.

I have been following this thread and the other by OGBenzo. I too would like to meet other Benz fans and see what other have done with their cars...if its not raining. I don't drive my baby when its wet outside.

I bought my 04 CLK Cab back in Oct. but haven't done anything to it yet.

6.5Kmiles? Wow! someone didn't have enough fun in their car prior to you.

Also, you are correct, it would be cheaper to have them chromed outside of the dealer, but may I suggest that you get them polished instead of chromed?

this is the other thread https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...0&pagenumber=2

I believe the Dealers Charge arm and a Leg to Chrome, better off doing it yourself, it'll be same thing...

Thanks Renn and SL,
I just found out that no shop in the Bay Area actually chromes wheels. They send them down to a shop in Anaheim. Smithe wants $1200-$1300 for an exchange. I know they work with Wheel Teqniques in Santa Clara. So I called WT directly and they want $1200. The problem is if I go through WT they I may have to wait 3 weeks. I also heard that some companies will chrome them in the Bay Area but that they are guranteed to flake in a year or less. If I go through the dealership, I am pretty sure I have them in stock. Hey Renn, I am familiar with polishing but I haven't seen any polished Monoblocks. How does it look. Do they still Bling? HAHA. Any ideas on shops to have it done?

blockz, Yeah, Polished looks excellent....but for pictures, you'll have to ask Mark Cummins, a member on this forum. Also, given your quotes, it should be significantly cheaper to polish than to chrome.

Welcome all. Looks like next week we're going to meet but haven't figured exactly where, hope the weather holds up. As far as chroming have you tried Wheel Works. I did a chrome exchange with them years ago for another car and it was swapping my alloys and a few hundred bucks. I don't know if it depends on what manufacturer you have or who they deal with. Good luck.

IMO polished looks nice but the upkeep sucks. It looks like a dull chrome finish. Chroming is the best look and cleaning is a snap!

It's listed on every post I make...you just have to look harder

...Until you curb your chrome rim and end up buying a new one because it's cheaper than having it repaired. Then you have to have that one chromed as well. However, both methods have their ups and downs, just matters what's important to you.

Oh, and this thread has been officially hijacked!

Going way OT:

Does anyone know a place to fix wheel curb and powdercoat rims? I've heard all about the place in campbell but it's way too far for me since i am in SF. Any contact info/pricing would be greatly appreciated..!

You also might want to take a look at Pacific Rims in Pittsburgh. I've heard excellent reviews of their work. 1800.928.6746 Don't know if that's any closer to you, but it's pretty much the only other shop in the bay that can do serious wheel work.

If however, you only have minor curb rash, I know of another possibility....just need to find the contact info.

Also, if you end up doing the powdercoating separate from the wheel repair, you should be able to take the wheel to any metal finisher and they can paint the wheel for you. Expect <$150/wheel as a starting point.

It looks like we're going to get together on the 29th as well. Don't know if it will be in San Mateo or Sunnyvale. The 14th depends on how many people we can get to come.

Someone needs to make an official sticky thread with the exact time, date and location..this thread is being hijacked left and right (including myself as a hijacker:p ) and info is scatter all over.

Here is the official date and time:

Date/time: Sunday March 14th @ 11am.
Location: Dave and Busters, Milpitas Great Mall

I figure we can meet up, have lunch, and maybe go on a drive. I'm not to familiar with the roads around that area, so if somebody has an idea on where we can drive to suggestions would be appreciated.

I think the area is centrally located for most everyone. This is the first meet that I've ever tried to set up. So let's get a list started of who's coming:
