So there already is an MBZ owner's group in the DMV. I was a member years ago but sadly work, life, family consumed most of my time and energy and I didn't stay with it. While I can't speak to their current activity level, back then, they had meet-ups, tech nights at dealer service departments, car shows, track events and scenic road trips. Even if they aren't currently active, they are/were part of a national MBZ owner's org so organizing/revitalizing the DMV chapter should be easier with an existing structure, event calendars and pre-existing relationships with dealers and sponsoring vendors. You should reach out to the club, they have an online presence and have an events schedule. I used to be a member, others who've posted to this thread just joined. It might be useful to reach out to them directly for additional info on events.
