I bought my Mercedes GLC 300 with 17k miles from a non-MB dealer. I have 47k miles and I AM currently within the factory 4 year / 50k mile warranty. My local Mercedes dealer has informed me that I am not eligible to purchase a Mercedes ELW because I am not the first owner, is this true? Does Mercedes really not allow second owners to purchase an ELW?

Yes 2nd owner can buy an ELW as long as original warranty is still valid. Your dealer is full of it. Shop around, you can buy ELW from any dealer in the nation, except the idiots that say that you can't because you're the 2nd owner.
Why would a dealer say this? I could have swore I ran into some fine print on some Mercedes documentation that said it was only available to the first owner but I can’t find it online.

Why do dealers say half the crap out of their mouths: self interest. It protects their CPO market. You're then led to believe you're SOL regarding the purchase of an ELW because you didn't buy your used vehicle directly from a MB dealership. Originally Posted by Nerdboss

It is not about the number of owners but rather if the car has ever been wholesaled or sold through a non MB dealership. Once the car is sold through a non MB dealership the warranty can no longer be extended.

This is not correct. The only prerequisite is that the original warranty is still valid. Don't quote me, just call MBUSA and ask them if you don't believe me:Originally Posted by superpop

I ended up trading in my GLC and went back to BMW. If I ever buy a Benz again ill make sure to sort out the warranty before I buy it.

I had this problem many years ago with a used Mb I purchased. If I remember correctly, if the previous owner bought a warranty and does not cancel it, then the new owner of the car cannot purchase the warranty. The finance manager can call Mb for you and get it canceled. Jeff Jackson explained this to me and offered to call MB corporate, but he said he will only do it for his customers that come in the store. He told me to always ask this from the MB store you purchase a used car from that’s eligible for an elw. He also said there’s ample turnover with finance managers and most don’t want to do it and will say they can’t. He told me to put the pressure on the finance manager that handles your deal.Originally Posted by Nerdboss
