Does anyone know if this is possible on the G580

I’m looking to do that with mine and want to change the wheels to a G63, any insight on either?

Looks like the overall dimensions and the mounting points are the same.

however, being it’s electric I’m not sure what’s behind those mounting points or if they’re even functional. There is full front conversion kits for the 580 to look like a 63 so it might be possible.
As for wheels I see no issue at all. All the new G’s are 5x130 lugged. At most you’d need spacers.

A Few Thoughts on G-Wagon Bull Bar, Bumper, and Grille Compatibility (G550/G580 vs G63)

I've been researching the bull bar, bumper, and grille options for the G550 and G580 over the past three months. Here's what I've found:
( please note, this is my research and my wife thinks I'm frequently insane)

1. Bull Bar Compatibility

  • You cannot install the G63 lower bull bar on a G550 or G580 without:
    • Removing the existing bumper ( or replacing it, but see camera problem below)
    • Cutting the required holes
    • Installing several internal support components
It is technically possible, but you'll need the proper internal parts to make it work.
  • The upper bull bar that is stock for the G550 can be installed without modifications—but I personally don’t like the look of it.

2. Bumper & Camera Placement

  • If you don’t want to cut your existing bumper, you’ll need a new bumper.

    Here’s the catch:
    • There is no G550 bumper available that accommodates the correct camera placement.
    • The G63 W465 bull bar has an integrated camera, which solves this on the G63.
    • As of now, there are no aftermarket kits that solve this camera placement issue properly.
  • Most G63 conversion kits place the camera above the Mercedes star in the grille. Installing these will mess with your camera system, because the factory system expects the camera to be in a specific spot.
This is actually the biggest challenge right now.

3. My Plan

  • I’ve decided to go ahead and spend the money to test all of this myself.
  • I’ve already purchased a conversion kit, and I do not want to cut my original bumper.
  • Instead, I’m replacing:
    • My current bumper with a first-generation G63 bumper "imposter" (which has the lower camera placement)
    • My grille with the G63 grille
  • I’m holding off on the bull bar for the G580 for now, because I’m concerned about camera/sensor alignment issues. I’m watching this closely, but it's not a solved problem yet for newer models.
If anyone has figured this out—please correct me.

Costs (Estimated):

  • $4,000 — G550 conversion kit (bumper + grille)
  • $800 — Paint
  • $500 — New stealth PPF
  • $2,000 (maybe) — Installation help (though I might do this myself)

Rims & Tires

I’ve installed several G63 factory rims and tires on my G580 without issues.
  • Bolt patterns and wheel wells are identical.

Important Note on Lower Bull Bar Mounting

  • The photos above don't show what’s under the plastic trim.
  • If you remove it (which is super easy), you’ll see the cut and metal structure are different.
  • The G580 is not equipped to mount the lower bull bar without modifying the cutouts and installing additional hardware. ( possible, but work is needed)
There are plenty of videos online showing this process—Google is your friend if you’re interested.
Photo of the kit, I've purchased. Kit has the proper placement of sensors and camera - and I might test out the bull bar install!

Cheers!

Again, happy to be corrected about any of this.

Not impressive until I actually put the screwdriver to it!

Question, is it worth it? I consider this as varying levels of risk. Is replacing the grill enough? Considering I have to take the bumper off to replace it? If the bumper is off why not just replace the bumper? And if you make it that far do you go ahead and accept the bull bar showing up in the front view camera?

All quite true. There’s this company that sells a complete front end upgrade for the G580 to the G63, bull bar and all. They don’t mention the camera placement or wiring. The price and instructions aren’t given until you contact them? They seem to be a well trusted company with dealers/partners world wide, so it seems it could possibly be done…with a big enough budget.

They should, make sure you check the center bore and offset though!

Interesting if you look closely , you see it says front guard with camera hole. So this company knows what they are doing. At least it would appear this way. Name of the company?

Also note the camera whole just above the star in the main grill. Perhaps this kit is built for w464,w463 as well. I’ve seen a ton of grill replacements with optional fake cameras to complete the look.

cheers.

You might want to double check this. I think the g63 has a number of tire / rim combinations that work with the g class. Figure out the tire size you want and the rim dimensions and head over to tire rack. You can input all your parameters and get a definitive answer.

They’re named Forza Performance Group.
It’s a Chinese company but I’ve learned not to sleep on China lately, their highend market segment seems to have realized the West doesn’t put up with inferior products for expensive equipment…mostly. I have some experience with that. Got a GT63SE4D coming in shortly. Got the matte carbon interior but can’t stand the cheap black plastic center console surround. Ordered a matte carbon console surround off eBay from a Chinese company and my sales guy and his mechanic buddy test fit it on a GT634D they had on the lot from a trade in and it fit perfectly. Only one example I know, and an entire front end conversion for a G is a different story. They seem to have great ratings on other forums and sites.

I put G63 21”s on my 580, ezpz:

I like how you can see the blue calipers with these wheels vs what came standard, also like the Michelins vs the Falkens

You think the 22 inch G 63 rims would fit on the 580? I like the monoblock look.

There’s slight changes to the wheel wells for aero, electric motors on each wheel, suspension, the battery pack etc. Short of getting the measuring tape out, someone’s gonna have to try and see if there’s any issues. The bore and offset have to be taken into account as well. A couple google searches bring up aftermarket manufacturers making mono’s that fit all the new G’s so…

Tire Fitment Issues
Quote: so I looked and my wheels are 20 and the G63 are 21 inch, that’ll still fit fine?
I put 24s on mine with 315/40/24 tires and within 5 miles had all kinds of errorless codes. ABS disabled, traction control, lane keep assist, etc. and it went into limp mode. I took it to the dealer and they said that the g580 doesn’t have an input in the software to change tire size, which theoretically would recalibrate everything. I had to put old wheels/tires back on and reset the error codes. Long story short, be super careful changing the tire size. If it’s close in overall radius/circumference then it might work. Also the weight of the wheel might be an issue with the motors and void warranty. Mercedes doesn’t want you to change wheels.

too big? Others put 21s and 22s without a problem…

I'm interested in this as well...the "CA6 - Black Panel radiator grille" is horrific.
