Engine fan questions!

As you probably know I'm the proud owner of a new G500 2003. I wonder if any of you have experianced the engine fan being on aproximately 80-90% of the time. I assume that the 500 engine crammed in such a tight space might tend to overheat, and thus the fan runs most of the time to keep it cool, the engine temp is usually 80 or so when this happens is this normal?

I imagine you mean the electric auxilliary fan.

Frequent running seems to be normal on most of them, although I haven't noticed excessive fan usage on my 2000 G500. If it gets to be too objectionable or the fan can't keep up, there is a trick to allow better summer cooling and bettter winter wiper deicing that has been posted on one of the German G sites. Let me know if you want it.

The other bad thing about this fan is that it's pretty noisy; and that goes all the way back to the beginning. My 1984 280GE's aux fan was noisy, too.

'02 G500
I have been noticing the same thing. I have had my '02 G500 for 2 weeks now and I can't believe how loud that thing is. It seems like it is always on. I had it running in my driveway trying to figure out all the new electronics and my wife came out of the house and told me to turn off the engine because it was so loud she could hear it inside. I know it's a truck and I shouldn't complain, but it would be nice if it were a little quieter. And I don't mean the wife, if that's what you're thinking.

Here you go:

Heiss-Sporn

You mean that you drive a German trruck, but cannot read German?

There are a bunch of free translation sites on the web. Look thm up. I think you'll find them to be very handy - not 100% accurate, but close enough to understand what they're trying to say.

Bottom line on the German tip is: Remove the 3 piece rubber sealing strip that runs along the top of the engine firewall and seals against the back of the hood. Removing it will allow more cooling air to flow through and out of the engine compartment. This escaping hot air will also help to minimize the wipers from freezing up in the winter, which is a real problem on the G.

hey there,

removed the 3 peace rubber seal on mine 2 years ago and can say it really helps. the only prob i had was that on rainy days water did run through there and conglomareted in the battery holder (rust after a while). as you guys have your battery in the cabin that shouldn't be a prob.

for those of you with bigger heat probs, www.orc.de has an aero-hood, with slits build fromplastic (gfk).
isn't original, looks odd, is rather pricy, but from what i hear it should help.

Hello,

Please can anyone show me where does these three pieces locate? I want to do anything to reduce the engine heat. I have tried to find bigger radiator to 03 g500 with no luck it seems that there is no aftermarket high performance radiator for the G.

thanks
