2002 G500 build/ restoration/ conversion photo thread

If you want G63 exhaust I recommend doing just the mufflers. Any OEM 2014-2017 will work. You can try G55 mufflers but I'm not sure if they are different from G63 or not.
It should be a fairly simple swap out. You might need to purchase G63 muffler bracket for the back.
The sound is very similar to G63, nice clean rumble.

I think I will reassemble it in a slightly different matter. It will take some planning... but I'll get it done ))
If anyone has any questions on what this process entailed, you're more than welcome to ask me. Im sorry i did not take any pictures of the process for posting (it was a bit frustrating and I was concentrating on making sure I do it right without breaking anything) but I was taking a lot of pictures of what I was disconnecting to make sure I know how to reassemble it.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Im also eager to have it all back together, we all will be popping champagne ))
Has the upholstery company sent you over an estimate for the total cost? I'm interested in also ordering from them. Maybe we can get a deal done if we both purchase. Are they local to you?

Its not a straight forward re-upholstery. I will do allot of work myself. Im making all the templates. I am providing leather hides. They will do seats from start to finish. They will do dash upholstery from start to finish. They will only stitch together leather for doors. B-pillar and I will glue leather on to doors myself.

I kinda wish you mentioned the dash removal to me, Alex. I'd have shared the numerous videos I have with you that were made by M-B for their techs. I cannot remember where I found them for the life of me but I downloaded 10-15 of them for the entire interior (IIRC).
I'm sure you have plans already but I can't help myself again; replace the HVAC actuators while you're in there. The little plastic gears in them tend to go and it would be a complete shame to have to go back in. BTW, note where each one goes (by coloured plug and add a number 1-8 on the actuator) so they can go back into the same location. The little chipsets in them hold values for range of motion and I was able to remove, refurbish and replace mine while avoiding STAR Diagnostics on the HVAC. Jsut a thought.
Otherwise, well done again and thank you, thank you for sharing.

That's alright, I figured it out without breaking anything )
I just plan to replace the little plastic levers that move the flaps. Never thought about replacing the actual actuators... I'll give it some thought.
Thanks

Quick question, I have a 2002 and would like to upgrade the electronics to the 2008+ models. Can I just purchased 2011 G550 command centre, top and bottom wood panelled climate controls, 2010 G550 odometer and just plug it all in? Or will it be far more intricate?
Thanks

Honestly I don't have all the answers to your questions.
I purchased 2010 W463 hazards button block with wood trim. W203 command unit. W209 climate control unit and W203 AMG cluster.
I believe that hazards block and climate control unit should be just plug and play.
Cluster might need some programing.... ill see what it looks like when I plug it in.
Not sure if I will need to change the plug or get adapter for the command unit. I did some research on it, and from what I understood I might need a adapter plug.... Ill know more when I start putting it together....

*Edit: Only problem with these units would be the quality. They do however come with some form of a warranty.

Yes, I saw those packages that sell it all. I just figured I can collect needed pieces on my own.
I wanted to stay with OEM command unit. Im not big music person or I will probably never use the navi on it, but I wanted to have it look stock.
