My seatbelts originally are gray and I want them black. I had 3 options (buy new black seatbelts, buy used blacks seatbelts, or replace seatbelt webbing).
After doing some research, I found out that seatbelts on Mercedes W164 are "similar" to W463 seatbelts. So I purchased 4 black seatbelts from W164 at $25 each. I will need to swap out buckles and have the webbing re-stitched at a cost of $40 for 4 belts.
Total seatbelt swap out is only going to cost me $140. That's the cost of one used W463 seatbelt ))
Nice catch...every little bit helps. I suspect there are many interchangeable parts in the MB line. It just takes determined research. Project is looking good. Keep the updates coming. I've become a loyal follower.
Yes, quite a bit of the interior parts that are interchangeable. Not allot but some. For example, the rear heater vent thats in the center console, right behind the armrest... thats from W210.
Hey KH, so I'm about to pull the trigger on some seats just like yours and am wondering why you did not get the rest of the seat functions going. Can you not just grab power? Are the controls tied to the computer that you took out?
BTW, beauty job on sharing what you have done so far. The time and energy it takes for you to do this will be appreciated for years! Well done.
Hello
The rest of the functions go through additional seat modules, ECU's, wiring and fuses.
I purchased seats without seat modules and used my original seat control module to get it to function just like the stock G500 seat.
I belive in order to get all the functions to work, it will require additional wiring, fuses, seat control modules, etc.... not something I wanted to deal with.
Are you going to overhaul the inner door locks and the front window lifts? The new front lifts use 2 supports to raise the windows rather than one. Knock wood the new ones I installed work fine. I don't know what to tell you about the inner door handle mechanism. As you know they are a failure point in the early Gwagens having come from the 90's C-class parts bin, I think, why they thought these lifters could raise the heavy glass of the G beats me. Cheaping out - "the best or nothing." Used to have to replace these once a year.
Are you coming up with a replacement for the outdated Comand system? What are you intending to use?
I am also going to install all new window regulators. The driver side has been replaced with the new version by the previous owner, but I'll also replace it just to have all new ones all around.
I did overhall all door exterior door handles already, they should be for a while.
As for the command unit, I'm facelifting the center console to the 2011 look, going to insall command unit from 2006 C - class. I know CD player that's in the trunk is not going to work since new units don't use fiber optics, but I'm ok with that, I'll just wire it to play music from my phone.

I shall be enlightened by your upgrades to these system failure points that I mention. I'm glad you agreed with me on these points; it shows your sagacity!
I'd don't think that you will miss the CD player because I've had to replace mine 3 times. That generation fiber optic system is a joke.
Do you think we could have pics of the modifications you did to the doors - I'm especially interested in the door mechanisms on the interior as well as the Comand unit from the 2006 C class. Physically, is it a drop in or does it take modification? Does that unit allow control from the steering wheel as well as allow you to do hands free calling from your phone? As far as music goes remember you can bypass iTunes and have really CD or better quality music files on your phone. What was your source for the 2006 C-class unit? Did it come with a wood surround, etc? If it not too much trouble can we see iii and out of the car? What is your plan for navigation updates?
What are you going to do with the existing speaker systems?
I'd keep that door lifting mechanism as a spare. Never now when these are NLA.
Again kudos on your efforts. This is a real boon to us 2002 owners!
Right now the car is completely stripped and is getting prepped for complete overspray. Once I start re-assembling, ill be posting more pics.
As for the 2006 C-class command unit, you also need the crate from 2006 W203 that holds the unit in the dash in order for the unit to fit. No actual modification is needed. I will find out if the steering wheel functions work once I install the unit, I believe they should, but we will see.
In order to install the 2006 W203 command unit, you need dash buttons, wood trim and climate control from facelifted W463 or W203. Dash buttons have to be from facelifted W463, climate and wood trim can be from facelifted W203.
I don't care much for the command navigation unit, if it works, great, if not, I'm ok with it.
Ill keep speakers stock.
Thank you, I'm enjoying this process. Learning allot about the car and restoration process.
Today I sealed some slight cracks and gaps that I had at some of the joints. These are the joints that are originally sealed with a urethane sealer from the factory.
Cleaned some rust out from the roof gutters and above from under the trim that's above the windshield. Then primed it and laid a bead of urethane sealer ( just like factory) to keep the moisture out for many years to come.

Have you found the part number for the crate yet? I actually went to the dealership and ordered the "crate" for a 2011. BOTH parts ended up being the wrong ones..... The first was actually the part behind the crate, and the second was in no way a crate for mounting the radio. I saw that some people are using a white colors crate.......
Anyways, if you could give us the part number that would be awesome!
Just an FYI....I did the same thing as pictured with 2004 Land Rover Discovery, and it was dead silent. However, it affects the interior temp as well. The Discovery ran hot all the time, which makes sense. It's insulation as well. I ran the A/C all the time, even in SoCal.

I just think it looks awesome and I can't wait to see how much quieter it will make my wagon )))
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the new door sills from? The ones on my '03 aren't working properly. Sometimes they come on, but most times they don't.
Hello MJS-G, I purchased them from this eBay seller, they can write custom text on your sills as well. They actually used my photos for their eBay listing (with my permission )
Thank you
Right now I'm just doing some random sanding and cleaning before the respray.
Not much to see... but ill keep posting as soon as there are some interesting progress.
