Custom Carbon Fiber Intake Scoops on my G...

I tackled a new mod and made custom intake scoops for the side intake vents... I had always read about the TTM style scoops the E55/63 and CLS55 guys where installing (their intakes are hidden behind the grill) and wanted some. They always claimed it makes a noticeable performance difference on the highway etc.... Nobody makes them for the G so I went about it myself. First made them out of blocks of wood, then fiberglass and then carbon... Once complete (couple of week process thru lots of trial and error), I attached them using the original vent's screw point and some 3M VHB on the contact points (just with a longer stainless screw countersunk thru the scoop and to the body' existing vent mounting spot for solid strength.) Finally finished it off with a standard 1/4" black nylon plug from Ace Hardware to cover the screw head and give it a finished look. Once mounted, I was pleasantly surprised at what a difference they really do make! Who knew? The E55 guys were right! . Plus I thought they look good on my G, a subtle custom touch.... Hope you guys like the addition.

Looks great, nice fab work. I wonder if it actually works? In theory it is setup correctly for more air flow.

Im guessing its probably even a more noticeable change with the G over the E for instance, since the E55/63 even stock, at least has the intakes in the front of the car and benefits from some forced flow at speed. where as the G trucks have their intakes on the sides and normally only get still air. Just a guess, but I was truly surprised at the improvement in throttle response and it seems to pull a bit better at freeway speeds going up hill etc. It's no additional turbo charger worth of power, but definitely noticeable immediately.

When making the molds, I filled the back end with resin and used a drum sander to round the inside back end to help get a more fluid air flow rather than a dead square box.
