g550 16-17 with Adjustable Suspension or without?

Hi
Could someone advise what would be the practical difference in ride quality with and without the option? Do I really need it? Anyone has the experience?
Thanks

DEFINITELY WITH!!!

It changes the way the G550 handles, and it was a must whenever anyone wanted to order the G550 from me.

It is a very low cost option for the benefit.

I would suggest test-driving one with, and one without.

If you don't have the option to drive one, I would highly recommend ordering one with the Adjustable Suspension.

MR-H, NYCBenz clearly has a lot more experience with these than I, but I do have the adjustable suspension and I can't ever imagine using the "Sport" mode. I'm also concerned about how I may confuse the sensors if I add 30-40mm of lift...

I bought my 2017 G550 as dealer stock; if I were ordering one, I think I'd skip the adjustable suspension.

Having owned a 2014 G550 without the adjustable suspension, a 2016 G550 with the adjustable suspension, and now a G63, I pretty much agree.

The standard suspension on the 2014 G550 gave a nice ride; it felt like it wandered a bit on the highway, but overall it was pretty nice.

My feeling with the 2016 was that the normal setting was too soft and the sport setting was too stiff (on normal roads). I had been hoping the normal setting would be just like the standard suspension and the sport setting would be a bit stiffer for better handling on the highway. The sport setting was a nice improvement on the highway, but not to the level of the G63 suspension. I just felt like I wasn't really happy with either setting.

The G63 suspension is definitely a bit overly stiff on rough roads, but otherwise it's the best of the bunch. If the road is in good shape, the ride as really nice and it's a dream to drive on the highway.

I wonder how much of that G63 "stiffness" may be due to the shorter tire sidewalls?

Perhaps some, but I don't have the stock tires. I had the dealer swap them with BFG KO2's that are slightly larger than the stock size. I don't recall the exact size at the moment, but they're ~1" larger in diameter, which of course makes the sidewalls slightly taller again. And to be clear, I'm not saying the stiffness is a bad thing, it's just something to be aware of.

Ultimately, my suggestion to the original post would be to do whatever you can to test drive the various options and make your own decision. Only you know what feels right to you.
