G63 Inquiry

Hello All,

I am looking into buying a G63! I have a few questions that'd like to ask...

1. What is the estimated delivery time usually? From my dealer they are saying 6 months, but from owners I have talked to they've said it could take up to 18 months!
2. Has anyone had luck with getting a little wiggle room from the dealer? I plan on buying this vehicle out, so I'd like to get a "good" deal. I didn't get any wiggle room when I talked to my SA about.
3. ( For people who have driven it in the winter) Is it a good winter beater? As I'd like to use the car all year round.

Thank you!

A lot depends on how big the dealer is (and therefore how many G63's they're allowed to order), how many customers are ahead of you in line at that dealership. Depending on how flexible you are on colors and options, they may be able to work out a trade with another dealer to get you one sooner than 6 months. But a small dealer with a relatively long order queue could easily end up being a long wait.

Some dealers will negotiate a bit on these, some won't. Either way, don't expect to get a huge savings as the dealers don't seem to have a hard time selling these when they get them in unless they order a weird color combo.

I have a hard time referring to a $150K vehicle as a beater. With the stock summer rated tires, a G63 will most likely suck in the snow. If you swap on tires intended to be used in snow, it will do quite well.

It may be a long wait to get the new 2019 model. I was chatting with the #2 guy at the local dealership a few weeks ago and he said that once the new ones start coming in, it's going to be a pretty good wait as they already have a long waiting list. He said to plan on at least a 6 month wait after the 2019 deliveries begin. We'll probably know more in about a week when the new model is officially revealed in Detroit, but I don't recall seeing any announcements for when the 2019's will start arriving. I suspect I'll end up getting the new model at some point, but I really need to see one in person before passing judgement on the interior and exterior changes. Based on the photos, the exterior changes look to be fairly subtle, but the interior changes are fairly significant. I'm also inclined to wait a year or so to allow them to resolve any initial problems.

If the solid front axle and older overall design is desired, it would obviously make sense to get a 2018 while they're still building them.

First year is always a gamble. Gremlins.

I anticipate 2018 model year sales to be low and slow with the new model coming. Expect discounts at dealers towards the end of the year.
Also expect to see alot of preowned examples hitting dealer lots for this new model.
