Are you keeping your current G, or going new model

Just wondering as to how many of you will be keeping your current G, or going with the brand new body design! To tell you the truth, I tried to like it, but it is to soft looking for me! I as well don't care for all the glass panel stuff. I like the rugged 2017 looks of my G63. The full brush guard on the front. The LED lights underneath the headlights, as well as the narrow foot print for parking etc. I know the new unit has lots to offer. And I am not slamming on it. This is just my opinion. Just was wondering if people are super excited, or still up in the air. I am sure it will be a hit! But I know there are always old school die hard fans as well!

I will continue to drive my 2000 G500 until MB brings in a diesel G; and that probably means until I or the truck give up the ghost.

Agree with all of the ops points on what makes the g63 awesome. I’m still upgrading to the 19 because of the additional space which was much needed. I feel like moving up I’m giving up a little aethestics for a lot of room.

Well that is very cool! Congrats on that! If I don't go back to a G, I will just look at a Mercedes sports car I suppose, like the GTR. I love Mercedes products, and have to keep the energy alive. But if I take care of my current unit, I will have my fix for a while to come.

I will drive one before making a decision. The upgraded suspension is appealing to me as is the interior redesign, but need to experience it. My wife is also pushing to drive a new one. She loves driving the MY '16 so we shall see. My lease is coming up within the next twelve months so that will enter into the decision. I am wondering how the value of the existing units will be impacted by the launch of the new model.

I have my deposit down but I am seriously considering to keep my 2010 G55 in addition to getting the new one. I had considered each year upgrading to the new body style but nothing really could get me to get over the upgrade hump, which is precisely the reason why I bought the G initially. Or at least one of the reasons. Honestly, if the newer G63s had a proper cup holder I would have probably upgraded. But as much as I enjoy driving the G55 every day, it is getting longer and longer in the tooth in terms of modern conveniences. There is obviously a lot of passion around the integrity of the G and how that will transport over to the new platform. When I bought the G55 I bought it with the intention of keeping it forever so I'm figuring the best hedge against the new G platform having lost its special magic is to just hang on to my current one and see how my feelings progress over the first 12 months. But the initial reviews are very positive and the growing temptation for someone who was so close to upgrading over the past 6 years have proven too much for this G owner. I plan to spec out something similar to the Edition 1 without all the gaudy red trim once the DOG arrives.

one thing is for sure, the improvements to the on-road feel will be tremendous vs. the outgoing model. anybody who test drives one should do so at their own peril - it will be hard to go back.

I respect what you are saying. But to me, the appeal of the old one is the military aspect with the solid axle up front. The rawness and crudeness that appeals to many! The deep throaty growl and burble of that 5.5 liter motor. If I wanted something that had a good ride, I would go with a RR or Lexee. But I am glad you responded. Because there are many who will invite what you mentioned in the new model. Good response! I am the old school guy is all. No disrespect!

Do you know if MB is bringing any of their new hybrid diesel models to the US? That may be an option for a future diesel G.

makes sense - appreciate the open-minded response. everyone is different. I would hazard to guess, however, that the vast majority of G wagen owners (and make no mistake - I recognize this board is not a good representation of that population) will prefer the on-road manners of the new one to the foregone ruggedness or off road capabilities of the old one (although, to be honest, I expect the new one to be just as capable). I am willing to bet that it makes huge strides in everyday livability and street prowess, creating a far more rewarding experience on the street. I think the magnitude of the improvement might even be enough to persuade some doubtful purists.

there will always be those die-hards that are more interested in the heritage and find satisfaction in the G wagens rugged and truck-like feel (its 'character' to put it nicely). I for one consider myself a member of this camp - I'm not a current owner, but I'm strongly considering buying a used 2016 or 2017 in the next 12 months when owners start trading up to the new one.

I just purchased a 16 and couldn't be more happy. Went with the old one instead of the new one as I prefer the prehistoric feel of the old one for some reason. Maybe in 5 years will go ahead with the new model. Love the truck

I totally agree with the fact of new Gs on road manners. It will perform with the independent suspension etc. And as one other poster said, he needed the room and that works for him. I agree that it may even persuade even the die hard purists. I may even be persuaded. I won't know until it comes time to trade. By that time I will let the looks grow on me, and than drive one and see. I am trying to be open minded as much as you. Great discussion from you and the other members. Keep the comments coming people. Its clean and its fun!

Nothing wrong with that. To each their own. You will love it. I actually saw a 2018 G63 a couple days ago in my hometown at a Benz dealer. It was interesting as it had the deviated stitching in the leather. I couldn't order that option on my 2017. As well they had the bottom of the steering wheel squared off like in a super car. It looks super cool. But I was wondering if it would be kind of a pain. I know when I have to make tight turns, I am spinning that wheel a lot under my hand. And that ole flat edge would ride through the hands quite a bit making them rotations to get into a parking spot at my favorite greasy spoon! Gotta love the G!

I always loved the G going back the early 2000's. To finally be able to purchase one and skip the car I've always wanted didn't make sense. Especially since the new one looks too much like a Nissan cube. So I pulled the trigger on an 18. Couldn't be happier!

Just traded in my 17 G63 as my 4x4 ^2 is here. The value of regular G already gets hurt by the coming new model.

That may be! But its not really out yet in big numbers to be fully evaluated by the masses. Its a softer look etc. Many love it! Yet many will not! My dealer told me that there are many die hard fans that will want that old model and it will do fine. In fact they have seen no decline in used price markets due to the news and ordering of the new G. Time will tell, respectfully speaking!

Probably keeping both. I could see these holding value if the new G’s are soft

Exactly. I will keep mine and when the next itch comes, we shall see. I wont be going to the new look. I will probably go back to a sports car. No offense on any who like the new G.

Makes sense! Yes go buy the new one for more money, drive it off the lot and get hit again with depreciation. I am holding onto mine until I am tired of it. That may be a long time lol

Put a deposit on new g63 but no pricing yet. Can ask dealer if they have the pricing. Traded in my 17 G63 (10k miles) for 118k and they can’t sell it for 119k for now!!! Lost 48k including tax but very happy to get rid of it. 4x4 is so much better.
