Desert Sand G????

I'm not sure why, but I really want a Desert Sand G63. I haven't seen the color on a G, let alone any other MB, so I'm looking for descriptions before I get too serious about tracking one down. Is it metallic or flat (not matte)? Is it more tan or yellow or gold? Did they only come with the designo sand interior?

Desert Sand is awesome, it is Glossy, but NOT metallic (think Midnight Blue). Reminds me of a military color, kind of like Agate Green.

You can get whatever interior you want, however most dealers who are brave enough to order a Desert Sand for an allocation that is not sold, will pair it with the Sand Interior.

One available at MB Manhattan. Looks much better if you remove the Brush Bar. Chrome doesn't look good on this color:

That sure is a unique color. I've never run across it before. Not sure I would buy one though. But...to each his own.

Exclusive Light Brown Interior, painted Spare Tire Cover, but Heated Wheel and Piano Wood (my two least favorite options on the G):

Thanks for the tip. I want something that's different, but not so wild like purple or magma red. I also like the Monza and olive trucks, but paranoid about the paint over time since this will likely be my last G class purchase - 4x4 for home and this G63 for vacation home. Any other colors I should check out that might be way cooler in person than cars.com pics?

The DOG shows Rubilite red as a new optional color for the MY 19 G. That is the color used on the E Class 25th anniversary cab and on no other Benz in the Staes to date.

Thanks, but just looking for a 17 or 18. The 19 is just a tall, boxy E class. I have a S63 coupe when I want to waft along in comfortable luxury and a 4x4/G63 when I want the complete opposite.

Totally respect the different but not wild color choices! I am not as brave but did custom order a midnight blue G550 for that old school non metallic but glossy paint. Too bad it didn't work out as MB ended production of the 463 earlier and picked up an in-stock steel grey one instead. #firstworldproblems

I think desert sand looks awesome. I didn't even know this was offered on the 463. It reminds me of the older w460s and later w461 G280/G300CDI Pro.

Other color choices that I think are likely cooler in person are: Agate Green and Magma Red, again going with the 80s w460 theme.

Desert Sand w461: http://www.graz-inc.jp/vcsMember/sto...439-1_560.html
Agate Green: https://clubgwagen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9792

My top choice for different but not wild would be agate, desert sand, then that bright red for a distant 3rd. I saw the bright designo magma red on a G63 or G65, a bit too bright on a 463 but looks good on a vintage 460. If I were braver w/ colors, I would have gone with Agate for a 2018.

That's two guys stumping for agate green, so I checked it out. Sorry guys, not a fan - reminds me of one of those green egg smokers. I'm a little younger and never even saw a G class until I was maybe 18-20 so I don't have any historical respect for it. FYI - they have a MY16 in Boston for $114k and 10k miles.

I think it's sand, olive, or Monza for me. Not a big fan of black wheels, so I'm liking those upgraded wheels on the Monza Grey edition.

Agate is beautiful in person, not sure if you are only looking at photos. Anyway, to each their own!

Olive Magno is awesome, but as it is Matte, it is difficult to take care of. I would always steer clients away from it, as if you get tar/sap/bird poop on it, you literally have to clean it ASAP otherwise it ruins the finish.

Also can't take it through automatic car washes.

The only Matte Paint that is "manageable" is Platinum Magno. You can get away with a few "polished" areas, as it is a lighter silver. When the darker Matte Paints get affected, the trouble spots stick out like a sore thumb.

I would strongly suggest getting the G wrapped in a Matte Finish if that is your thing, as it is relatively cheap (< $5,000), and you can remove if you get tired of it eventually.

I'm not a fan of any of the blacks and my 4x4 is my favorite polar white, so I want something different. Silvers and greys look great, but don't stand out among other Gs. Excluding white, black, silvers and greys, I'm stuck with all the manufaktur colors. I'll never buy a red or blue car unless it comes from Maranello. So, that leaves the earthier colors - greens and browns. I've been warned about the matte paints, but then I talk to a detailer here and there and they'll say it's super easy to clean and way more durable. Plus I'm not sure how well it will age - both the paint and the style. I guress it looks like I better get my eyes on a desert sand G.

Have you seen Ocean Blue? It's somewhere between blue and green - looks really cool and I think it's the G650 Landaulet brochure car color

Having seen a 2017 or 2018 (I don't recall, but the point is the current version) Desert Sand G in person at the local dealer sometime last year, I wouldn't buy it from photos alone. The glossy version on the current models looks too yellow and shiny to me. The duller matte version shown in the link @Holson included is much more to my taste and is what I had been hoping Mercedes would go with when I heard they would be offering Desert Sand; it looks a lot more like a military version. Agate Green is another one I would need to see in person.

My 2016 G550 was Midnight Blue, which I thought was a stunning color.
