Lost Key Fob, Next Step?
Well that didn't take long, owned the car for under a month and already lost the key fob (and worse, we don't know where it was lost which worries my even more)
I did not get the key fob insurance
1) I heard the replacement fee is $500. Is that correct?
2) Is there anything else that needs to be done to ensure the security of the vehicle since we do not know where the key fob was left behind? I'm assuming all these keys are chipped so a simple recoding should be sufficient? Do they usually charge for this?
Thanks in advance for the help

Out Of Control!!
Sorry for your loss and yes you are fooooked----the car must be towed to any dealer who will extract the key data from the ignition module and that info will be used to order you a new key----make sure you bring your title and registration as any dealer worth his salt will escort you off the premises without ownership documentation.
However as a last chance I would determine when you lost your key and then retrace the days travels--if nothing, you know what you have to do.
If you really think that the odds are smaller than you wining the lottery vs a person finds your key and knows the car\location and now has the ability to steal the car then for another 1000 bucks have the ignition module rekeyed for another different(bin file)

I'm assuming I'll need to get 2 replacement keys to invalidate my old remaining key fob and the missing key fob?
Spoke to the dealer and have title, registration, and 2 forms of ID ready to go for Monday. Do you know if this is something that can be done the same day or is this a multiday job?
We tried retracing our steps but we've been a lot of places in the past 48 hours. Probably easier to just have the ignition module rekeyed
Thanks for your help

Pick up the new key fob. Dealer can invalidate the old key fob so the ignition will no longer recognize it. Pull a search on DAS key authorization system EIS EZV and you'll find more than you ever expected to read....

So it looks like they'll be able to invalidate the old fob, keep my one remaining fob active, and add a new active fob. Hopefully that limits my damage to $500 or less

If not, they can collect the data, invalidate the old fob, and I'm assuming mail me the newly activated fob from Texas?

Well, figured I'd leave an update in case anyone has to go through this
$575 to replace the keyfob, not including tax. For some reason, it's more expensive for the G wagon. Must be a progressive fee
$99 to program. The technician can eliminate missing keys while adding the new key. I believe there's a grand total of 8 that can be programmed.
Did not require title of the car but did require registration.
Keys take 48 hours to come in and then about an hour to program.

I left my key FOB in LA. I called my local dealership and it came from Texas. It was $350 or so.
In no way on earth should you pay a programming fee. It's programmed prior to being sent! I had my key shipped directly to me from Texas, but I ordered it from my local Mercedes of Sarasota.
I'm really curious about the programming. Did you tow your G to the dealership?

To be fair, I was told be 2 separate people at 2 different times that the fee would be $500+
My spouse lost the key locally. We don't know where we lost it. We originally had 2 keys and lost 1 of them. Perhaps that's why there's a programming fee? To inactivate the old key, reprogram the one remaining key, and activate the new key?
I still have one remaining key and was able to drive my G to the dealership (also in the South Florida region)
