Update, dealer said my G550 is at the dealership and just needs to be detailed, so I'll post first impressions and photos (I went all out on the interior upgrades) in the next few days.
Can't wait!

Ok, here she is, pretty damn impressive for $150K. I'll post more pictures and my thoughts on the drive later. Thanks for all the help everyone. These forums really are helpful and cut through the bs and misinformation
floating around out there.

Well, I ran into a snag with the funding. My dealership is telling me that MB Commercial division will not finance passenger vehicles (i.e. G550), although I have done it with my 2015 G550, so I'm home without it. So annoying and frustrating. No one knows their jobs anymore.

Ok, got it done through a purchase (not a lease). All good. So, my first impressions are this:
PROS:
Number One (and it's so much a number one that there is a big gap until number two): The steering is amazing. No more dead spots going around a turn (which only got scarier with increased speed) like on my 2015 G550. You feel connected to the road depending on the condition (i.e. light at slow speeds and heavier on higher speeds). This upgrade alone is worth getting this newer model if you are going to get a Gwagon of any year.
Number Two: Less Roll. This new G seems stiffer and more responsive. And the power is great. Seems will balanced.
Number Three: Love the look, it's not as boxy so it has a more modern look, yet still 100% G Wagon.
CONS:
Number One: The fenders. I got the AMG line and I like all the components except the wheels/tires do not match the flared fenders. From the rear, the wheels and tires seem undersized and too far inside the wheel wells. I think the AMG Line should not only come with the bigger wheels/tires, but the offset should be more aggressive and/or the wheels/tires should be wider. This car is for my wife, so she may not care, but to me it looks whimpy and a bit goofy.
Number Two: The sound. Even with the AMG Line, which my understanding was it provided a more aggressive sound, the sound is tamer then my 2015 G550. Maybe after a few miles, that will change. Hope so, although again, my wife may not care.
Number Three: The seat range. I'm 6'5" and although the new G body is wider and longer, it doesn't feel that much roomier in the drivers space. I think if the seat lowered a bit more it would be better.
Overall, I give it an 8.5 on scale of 1 to 10 (10 being perfect). I like it. It drives amazing. Would not have a problem taking this one on a long road trip.
Thanks for following along and thanks to all the forum participants for your conversation, opinions and input. Best of luck to anyone in the que for one of these redesigned beauties!

I agree on the AMG Line option. I considered removing this option, several times (and then it was too late). I got the heated steering wheel, which removes the AMG steering wheel. The brakes showed to be cross-drilled in all documentation, but is not the case on US models. The only real options I like, is the exhaust and the fenders. Not much value IMHO...
They do indeed need to address the wheel and tires on the new G. I have considered going with 285 profile tires, but may rub without spacers...

Anyone know where to get spacers for the new G550?

Here's another small thing that annoys me. In WA we are required to run with a front plate. I don't like the way it makes the front end look so we don't do the front plate on any of our vehicles (and have never had a problem with law enforcement).
I went to remove the front license plate and whoever installed the front plate holder, screwed right into the plastic/composite front bumper? Really? WTF? Sometimes I just shake my head. Has the world really gotten that careless and stupid? What do you think, was it installed like that at the factory?
Like I said, it's very minor, but to have damage out of the gate is a bit annoying.
First World problem though, for sure.
