Difference btw 2016, 2017 or 2018 G63 model
Hi,
I am looking at getting a used G63, as think can get a better price on an used one.
Is there any significant difference between the models or a year you guys would recommend between 2016 and 2018?
thanks

17+ have the car play and higher res rear camera alongside the newer UI. 16+ is when they added carbon fiber to the speedometer as well as changed it to Amg g63 in the rear as opposed to G63 Amg badging. 16 also added the Amg in the front grille.
Other than that, it’s all options iirc

I think 18's also added the option to extend the leather under the dash? Other than what's mentioned above though nothing really. I didn't realize 17's also had Apple Carplay.

Yeah and Apple CarPlay works pretty well. It also has Android Auto, but I use an iPhone so haven’t tried the Android option. All in all though the differences from 16 through 18 are pretty minor overall, so if buying used I’d focus more on condition, mileage, and the color combo you want.

2017+ gets rid of the little antenna in the front center of the roof line and it now sits more flat along the rear roof. Subtly, but a good trick to identify pre17s. I also happen to dislike the little antenna.

Sure enough, the app does have remote start available for my 2017 G63. Though it does work, it takes a while for it do go through the process of finding the vehicle, checking security, and so on before it actually starts the engine. I didn’t time it, but it seemed like it took more than a minute to start after pressing the button in the app. Nice to have the option available though.

I'm assuming you're asking how to use the remote start feature? I'm not sure how to show you from afar nor do I know what kind of smart phone you have, but on an iPhone:
1) Install the "Mercedes me" app from the App Store.
2) When you run it, you'll need to login to your Mercedes me account, which should be associated with the VIN of your vehicle. This is, IMHO, an area they need to improve as it frequently seems to forget I'm logged in (AND forgets that I've asked it to use Face Id) despite asking it to keep me logged in. I'm not sure if this happens as a result of app updates or just poor coding, but it makes using the app a bit of a nuisance.
3) Once logged into the app, on the home page there should be a row of 3 round buttons in the middle of the display - "Remote Start", "Lock & Unlock", and "Send2Benz"
4) If you press the "Remote Start" button, it will take you to a new screen where you have to press another button to initiate the start (I'm not going to do it right now because mine is in the garage with the door closed).
That's it. It looks like they've added the ability to link the remote start command to Siri - I don't recall seeing that option in the past.
The "Lock & Unlock" feature is kind of nice - if you think you may have forgotten to lock the car, you can use that feature to send a lock command to the car.
"Send2Benz" is also really nice - it allows you to send a destination address to the navigation system. So you can use your phone to track down an address and then send it to the car, which is usually a LOT easier than entering the address through the Comand system controls.
You can also access these features from the "connect" tab at the bottom of the app, which adds a "Horn & Lights" and some other features.
I have no idea how well the app manages multiple cars - I only have the G63.

Suppose to have a suspension tuning update on the 2018
and suppose to have an upgraded interior soundproofing in the doors on the 2018. From what i read somewhere on this forum.
I have the g63 2018 and tried a road test on a g63 2017 and ya maybe a very small difference but hard to tell.
and the Mercedes Me app is crap and does not work in Canada for the remote start
and you need a MBrace paying account to use it in full (i think its free when u buy the car new)

Look for the one in your budget and the color combo you want. They are all similar.
I have a 14, I’ve driven a 13, some of my close friends have a 17 and 18 that I’ve driven. In NYC driving I’ve hardly noticed any difference in any of them.
Theres a upgraded screen out now 12 inches that allows for CarPlay and significantly updates the interior. Also out is ambient lighting upgrade that gives you 12 colors to the new style G.
You can always get more power from a tune if that’s your thing....however for a truck with the aerodynamics of a brick that is useless imo.
good luck you’ll be happy either year

Do you have a G550 or G63? If a G550, do you have the optional adjustable suspension (IIRC, 2016 was the first year that offered that feature)? I wasn't aware of any suspension changes in 2018 - if there were any, they were likely very minor.
