X5M owner looking to get into a G63...couple questions

Hey folks,

I have a 2017 X5M that I'm selling and looking at getting into a prior gen G63. I've started my initial research and wanted to ask a few questions:
  1. if there are any differences between a 2013 and a 2016/2017? If so, are there any threads on here discussing it? I looked but didn't find any
  2. what's real ilfe MPG? It looks like it's like 13 city/15 hwy. Is that correct? I have a 2013 Raptor so I'm not too concerned about mpg but just wanted to true up expectations.
  3. Any major gripes from current owners?

Thanks in advance for your input

Edwin

There are quite a few threads I can take a look through and find them for you.
*2013-2014 are very similar. 2013 being the first model year for the G63 of course.

*2015 they added the extra pocket/handle on the front driver and passenger doors.

*2016 was a big change, better suspension carbon fiber in the drivers dash as well as increased the horsepower from 537 to 563. It also added a net pocket in the trunk on the left side. Flipped the rear badge order to G63 AMG instead of AMG G63. Added from the factory an all weather cargo mat for the rear trunk that extends to where the rear seats fold. (I believe that's a $400 option if you wanted to get it now) I believe that's also when they added the flat bottom steering wheel as an option (over $3,000 MSRP if you wanted to buy it now)

*2017 has all those changes in addition added a nicer larger navigation screen, a better backup camera with guide lines that move and different angles as well as apple and android carplay. All the buttons on the center dash area are no longer rounded but flat, Removed antenna at front of roof. Red stitching was an option, extended leather color was an option.

*2018 all those changes and added better side airbags, adding to the A pillar in addition to srs badge on B pillar like previous ones. Also night package was a available option to the exterior from the factory. Flush rear windows

Aside from various special colors and extended leather options on 2017 + models those are the main differences I'm sure I'm missing a few small things.

I own a g63 and 2018 Raptor....if you go the g63 route...only get the 2016 or newer...the suspension updates are worthwhile and I think the drivers pedals are slightly different to increase comfort(not sure but I was told this by a 2017 owner...so) Real world mileage is @11mpg...mixed highway/city driving ---The g63 has throttle and turbo lag---my advice get a Pedalbox or similar product to liven up pedal/throttle response....and the g63 is nowhere near as comfortable to drive/use as Raptor (gen 1 or gen 2)

The turning radius on 2013-2014 g63 is pretty bad...especially considering it is an off road vehicle....much improved on 2018-2018 g63----

Cheers

I think this says it all. I can get up to 16 mpg on highway with cruise control. It drives like a truck, or some might say a jeep. Not nearly as comfortable as your x5, but there is no feeling like it. As long as you don't compare it to anything else you will love it, because you shouldn't. There just is simply nothing like a G.

Good luck and let us know!

Quick update... the x5m is officially sold. I started to get serious on my search for a G63 and noticed there are some dealerships selling the new 63's for ~$160K. Are they not being marked up anymore?

Soon: 2020 G63 Currently: 2016 GLE63 SUV + 97 F250HD, Before: 2013 G550, Range Rover Sport, 1984 CJ7
Suspect they have it listed as MSRP but you will undoubtedly find them with a premium when you go to buy it.

Probably a teaser/leader price. Worth the call though.

Markups are still there, and actual selling prices for on-the-lot G63 are still around $25K over sticker. However, markups are dropping noticeably every month.

The sticker prices are just the automatically generated prices from their marketing software.

The 2016 isn't any different from the 2014 if at all. You should 100% test drive one on the highway and do at least 15+ miles on highway at speed before you make a purchase. Trust me...

I read some older articles on here discussing how the 2018 was somewhat better than the 2017 in terms of ride quality (both classic shape) so asked about the differences suggested here for 2016 as thats the year Im looking to purchase but haven’t driven it yet

Thanks
