G550 or E63 AMG Wagon
I know this is the G Wagon section but I'm thinking about going for a E63 AMG Wagon and letting the dust settle on the G Wagon frenzy for a year. Also might be a good idea to let them work the kinks out, like the windshield breakage issue, the inside wind noise, and anything else that pops up. Anyone had the AMG Wagon? Am I overreacting with the worry about the few issues we're seeing with the G Wagon? Anyone else getting cold feet on a $140K G?

E63 wagon is a beast. Scary fast and stealth as hell unless you know what it is. Much like the G, there is nothing else on the planet like it. I'd get it and let the gremlins work themselves out on the new G.

E63 Wagon +1 Such a beast. Put snow tires and a coffin on top and it is a sleeper snow machine.
Not sure how depreciation is on it through. The G will hold better. But the E63 gets high-fives from me all day.

Depreciation on most AMG cars is enormous. Probably looking at 40% in the first year. Not sure it makes financial sense to buy one for a year with the intention of flipping it for something else. But hey, it's hard to make financial sense out of any of these expensive cars (or cars in general). But that's why we are "enthusiasts".

fwiw, i had a 2016 E63S wagon for about three years and when it came off lease, switched into the 2019 G63 which i took delivery of a few weeks ago. i prefer the G63 because of the driving position and overall better size for my family (two kids). plus i always felt the E63 needed to be babied a bit more while the G63 looks good even when dirty and covered in mud. the E63 is definitely a beast and rivals any sports car out there (i had a few 911s in a prior kid-less life) so its a good sleeper sportscar when you need to convince the family that its the "responsible" option when loaded with two car seats! i will say that the gremlins of the new G63 do scare me, after only 170 miles (on two outings) its already back at the dealership with what will hopefully end up being only a faulty differential sensor but will still take two weeks to repair since the part has to be ordered from germany. time will tell if there is more drama to come. i had a range rover before the E63 wagon and personally concluded that i prefer a larger SUV (with performance) to a wagon but i only learned that after living with the wagon for a while. one thing i do miss on the G63 is the absence of the "self driving" features on the E-class in general - adaptive cruise control (which the G63 also has) doesnt include the adaptive steering (which basically allowed the E63 to follow the car in front of it including steering adjustments around moderate curves.) its the closest i've come to having a "self driving" car and i miss it on the G63 (not sure why they don't offer it.)

Leaning towards the G as I have two boys, 6'2" and 6'6". Probably won't fit in either but have a better chance in the G. Other car is a 2019 Long Wheel Base Range Rover which is probably the best car I've had.

It's hard to find a good deal on them because they're so rare.
You can find 2013 ones that are still $60k!
I find the e wagon extremely comfortable. We had one as our European rental for a month 3 siblings and my father are are 6" + and the e class was the most comfortable in the back for headroom and space. This was the previous gen though but we've driven the new one on test drives and it's about the same. I think it has a lot to do with the roof line that makes it more comfortable that the sedan even.
The wagon is definitely an option to check out, but if your heart is set on a g. It will be hard to sway it otherwise.

but the gremlins scare me. I have had really bad luck lately with 2x brand new Range Rovers...hope it’s not the case with g63. Would be great if you add more details via separate thread! Thx

I checked out an ‘18 E63 Wagon early in my car shopping experience, but I ruled it out based solely on the cup holder protrusion on the lower driver’s door bin. It hit my leg, so it was a no-go. Other than that, it looked like a really complete package for only $125k, but the E400 would have been a more logical choice.

E63s AMG wagon

I have a 2018 E63s wagon and just picked up a 2018 G63. Talk about polarizing differences. The E63s wagon is a unicorn. It’s literally the perfect utility vehicle for car enthusiasts and every one of them agrees they’d buy one(but they never do). Why? Cause at 120k, you can jump into a nice exotic(I also own an R8 so I already scratched that itch).
So while the E63s ticks a lot of boxes(utility, space, luxury, monster performance, etc.), the G63 ticks very few. Frankly it ticks just one; aesthetics. Well I’d say off-roading but I intend to just go mudding and some basic trails. However, since I have a small(R8) vehicle, a medium(E63s) vehicle, and was trading my large(RR sport), I had to find a large replacement. If I had to choose only 1 vehicle, it’ll be the E63s, hands down. The aesthetics on the G is unlike any other. But everyday livability really is sub par. Plus the back seats’ knee space? Non existent.
I threw downpipes and a tune for my E63s and it outruns(and outscreams) most exotics, while having enough space to load up on groceries. I’m big into modifying my vehicles and the G does give me a lot of options to mess around. To be honest, the G is simply just a toy, but I’m ok with that.
