That's an interesting opinion. Have you owned a JL and a solid axle G?

I've recently owned both and have possibly some surprising takeaways. I'd be interested to hear if someone else has experience with a MODERN JLUR and a SFA G (pre 2019.)

My 2019 JLUR:
-VERY close to the same manufacture era as my 2016 AMG G63.
-Way better sound system. Not even close in fact, I feel like my G63 is punking me.
-Worlds better tech (infotainment, gauge accessibility, etc.)
-Drove nicer with a 2" Mopar lift and 35's than my G63 does (talking suspension, not specifically wheels/tires.)
-Disconnecting front sway bar.
-More capable off road, due to better articulation. Both G63 and JLUR are "triple locked".
-More rear seat leg room, more storage.
-Cupholders.
-Cost was 1/3 the cost of my G63 when new.
-I ran 68 trails in my JLUR, never had a single mechanical issue, check engine light, "death wobble", etc. I used it very hard. Some of the trails run were: Rubicon Trail in CA, Holy Cross in CO, and every trail just about in Moab, UT. Full 115-degree heat, and in the dead of winter, no issues.

My G63:
-POWER.
-Engine sound.
-Full time 4wd is nice to have.
-Interior looks nicer (but isn't). Diamond stitching isn't enough to impress me, but it impresses anyone who sees it.
-Interior controls are awful. Switchgear (windows, sunroof) all feel flimsy and the farthest thing from solid. Seat lumbar controls are unlabled plastic rollers (wtf?!)
-Infotainment makes Toyota look advanced. No remote start, no keyless entry, because "military" vehicle. Right...
-Ergonomics are laughable. No cupholders are present other than the basketball net and the $150 one I just bought on amazon.
-Rear seat legroom is for children. Seats don't even slide.
-Rear door is a joke. Heavy AF, and doesn't lock into place or have detents.
-Already had a check engine light come on for the gas cap (ghost issue, cleared codes, never returned.)
-All parts and maintenance on the vehicle are overpriced. When I bought it, the rear right seat lever had broken off (extremely flimsy/cheap piece of plastic - never have I seen this in any modern vehicle). "B service" already ran me $4500. Plus alignment. Plus balancing wheels.
-Still has death wobble in the 50 mph - 60 mph range, randomly. with 45k miles on the clock, I'm excited to see what other "built like a tank" issues may pop up. Dealer recommended I replace my steering box to solve the issue, I told them to pound sand. They already put a new steering stabilizer on for the last owner, which of course only masks the problem.
-Hood requires a lot of adjustment and TLC in order to shut right and not "flutter."

Not dissing the G63, no matter how it sounds. This is just reality. I've owned a lot of cars (about 50, mostly bought new) and I actually love the G63, despite these foibles. Hopefully, the drivetrain makes up for the other, uh... letdowns. But being real, G Wagons are quite possibly something people like to own because it shows they CAN own one, more than they WANT TO own one. I don't think many 2019 JLURs have had 6 owners by this point (or will in 3 years - to match the age of my G) - because the modern JL is actually very well made.

No matter, I'm diving in. I have 18" Alpha Equipt wheels that DO FIT over the AMG brakes (H&R 30mm spacer) and I'm putting 33" KO2's on it shortly. Roof rack, ladder, rock sliders, re-direct for the side-dump exhaust, and I will be pushing it through it's paces to see what it can do and if it will really hold up. Possibly going to run the Rubicon this summer (will upgrade to 35's and a 4" lift for that.)

All points well taken - I'd drop $80K on a new 392 before taking on a pre-2019 G for the same money.
