'18 G truck exhaust system: Resonators or Secondary Catalytic?

Hello!

I've attached photos to see whether the circled part are the resonators or secondary's?

I was told by gwagenparts.com that the '18 G trucks have resonators, but I thought only the later models did? When I inspected my Gs exhaust system originally, i thought that the circled part are the secondaries, since they look like a catalytic converters, but no O2 sensors are going into it. It is also an AMG part.

My goal is to open up and increase the volume of my G truck. It sounds okay as is, has a nice low grumble at low RPMs, even pops sometimes. But it sounds very constricted and super muffled; preventing what could potentially be an amazing true exhaust note to truly come out.

Please let me know if you guys think /know if the circled part are the resonators or secondaries.

Thank you!

Did you do anything? Was looking on the forum on deleting the resonator. I dont see any thread about this. Sounded really nice on my other AMG when i removed my resonator. But was wondering on the G63 2013-2018 if that was a good and simple way to let the engine sound more.

Removing the resonator should give you the sound you prefer, but you are going to have to cut them off, not me! If it were mine though I would remove one first and see if I liked it, and it could always be welded back on.

I replaced mine this past week with RennTech downpipes with 200 cell cats. Sounds great with the deeper exhaust note.

I lucked out and found mine on eBay brand new and 30 min from my house. They were listed $1500 then dropped to $1200. I sent the seller a message and picked them up for $900. I will snap some pics later and post them for you.

those were in the ones florida? those are catted i was going to get those but those aren't worth it for the minimal sound difference

catless is the ones you want makes a much bigger diff in sound way more than catted. Which is why I didn't bother with those that seller was tryingto get rid of those for a long time

I have also heard a G63 with the mufflers removed and it sounded great. Had good turbo spool and the cats were intact. I don't want to deal with the CEL issues with removing cats as I have ran catless in many cars and without a tune you'll have a CEL flashing.

I might go with that as the labor will be cheap and it should be easily reversible.

I had the secondary cats deleted and resonator on my C63 sounded great the G does not have any of those

Yes, they were the ones from Florida. As far as sound difference, it’s a lot deeper and louder. For me it’s what I was looking for. I wouldn’t want it any louder. Now I’m looking for a nice tune...

Be careful with a tune i was looking until i gave up there is a company here that tuned g63 only and actually made the tune from a real g63 everything else is just a generic tune for the m157...... that is not good for our g63. Our g63 are totally different with the m157 compared to a e63/s63/etc the tuners say its no problem but it is a big problem. Most tuned g63 perform worse than stock. The company that did the G only tune is no longer around I tried contacting them many times.

I am sure it still sounds good. How hard was the install/labor? Any clips?

Sorry no clips. Removing the old pipes and installing the new was easy. My challenge was getting to the o2 sensor plugs. They are high up over the chassis I scraped and bruised my hands trying to reach them.
